The Senators are coming off a stunning meltdown in Saturday night’s 3-2 loss to the visiting New York Rangers. Washington returns to action after seeing an epic comeback fall just short in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the visiting Calgary Flames, but they have picked up at least a point in each of their first five outings this season.

Washington is a -167 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 6.0.

Capitals vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds

With the club attracting a whopping 94 per cent of bets, the Capitals have gained ground on the odds board, climbing to -167 chalk after opening at -163. The total has also seen a little movement since opening at 6.5, now sitting at an even 6.0.

Monday’s matchup marks the first meeting between these two teams since January 2020. The Capitals have dominated the head-to-head, claiming victory in 15 of 17 dates with the Senators since 2014, including each of the past eight. Washington has effectively shut down the Senators during that win streak, limiting Ottawa to just two goals per game, and earning the win by multi-goal margins on five occasions. However, with the Capitals averaging six goals per game over their past three meetings, the OVER currently enjoys a steady 3-0 run in totals betting.

Washington Capitals

Winners by multiple goals in three of their first four outings, the Capitals suddenly found themselves playing catch-up in Saturday night’s home date with Calgary. Washington spotted the Flames a 3-0 first-period lead before storming back to force overtime with three late markers on the way to their second overtime loss of the season. Evgeny Kuznetsov sparked the comeback with a shorthanded goal before Alex Ovechkin set up one goal and added the game-tying marker. The duo have now combined for nine of Washington’s 19 goals, and 19 total points through five outings. Ovechkin has also tallied four goals over his past two appearances versus the Sens, and 11 points over his past eight.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators saw the wheels come off in Saturday’s home date with the Rangers. Sporting a 2-0 lead with just over five minutes remaining, Ottawa surrendered three goals in just 3:20 to hand New York a 3-2 victory. That marked the second time in as many games that the club has fallen to defeat after blowing an early lead. Indeed, scoring has come at a premium for the Senators, who have averaged just two goals per game through their first five outings. But despite those struggles, they have remained competitive thanks to a stingy defence that has surrendered a ninth-ranked 2.40 goals per game. That has generated steady results for sports bettors taking the UNDER, which has paid out in each of Ottawa’s five outings.
