The Washington Capitals are firing on all cylinders these days, winning four of their last five games overall to improve to 10-2-5 on the season. They are locked into second place in the Metropolitan Division and hope to gain some ground with a win over the Seattle Kraken. As you can probably expect from a new team, there has been some trouble getting it all together, which is why Seattle sits at 4-12-1. They are also on a six-game losing streak and have lost eight of their last nine. Can the Kraken finally break out of that streak or will Washington keep on rolling forward?

The Capitals are -131 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with a total of 5.5.

Capitals vs. Kraken NHL Betting Odds

Washington is 5-1 straight up in their last six games overall and 7-2 in their past nine games played on a Sunday. Most of the time that this team is listed as the favourite, they deliver. The Capitals are 28-9 in their last 37 contests when being listed as the favourite heading into it. Sunday usually equals improved scoring for them, as the over has cashed out in five of their last six games on this day of the week.

It’s been a lot of bad news for the Kraken to start their first year in the NHL, as they have lost their last six games and are 0-5 in their past five when coming into the matchup as the listed underdog. Thankfully, their lack of defence has helped the over cash out in their last five games played at home as well as their past four when listed as an underdog.

Washington Capitals

Washington has been clicking offensively lately, with four players over double digits in the points category right now. Alex Ovechkin is the player to look out for here, as he has 12 goals and 14 assists on the year while leading this unit. Evgeny Kuznetsov has trailed closely behind the team’s star player though, with 21 total points. What typically makes the Capitals go – as we’ve learned over the years – is how they perform in net. Vitek Vanecek is 4-2-4 with a .911 save percentage so far, and Ilya Samsonov is 5-0-1 with a .914 save percentage. Both have been solid. This is a well-rounded team and as long as they’re not half asleep in this spot, they should pick up the win.

Seattle Kraken

Seattle is still working out the kinks to their system and learning how to operate as a unit. New groups of players don’t just immediately form chemistry. The Kraken have had their moments offensively, but nobody really stands out besides Jordan Eberle. Eberle has nine goals and five assists to lead the team in total points. They have lost six straight but the offence hasn’t let them down as they’ve scored at least two in each of those losses while averaging 2.83 over that span.

The other end is where they’re having problems. Philipp Grubauer is 4-8-1 overall record and has a paltry .875 save percentage. They’ve given up a whopping 5.2 goals per game during this six-game slump. If the Caps hit that mark, they’ll win easily.
