It’s a rematch of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final when the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights meet out West Wednesday night. Washington’s clinched a playoff spot but can only be better positioned at this point as they currently stand in eighth with 96 points. Vegas is just outside the Western playoff picture, sitting in ninth place with 87 points.
The Caps are in the back half of a four-game road trip in which they are 2-0 so far. Vegas is on their final home stretch of the regular season, a three-game stand that began with a 3-2 loss to New Jersey Monday.
Puck drop at T-Mobile Arena is set for 10 p.m. EDT, with Vegas a short -130 home favourite on the moneyline and the total at six on the NHL odds.
Capitals vs. Golden Knights NHL Betting Odds
Washington’s entering Wednesday with wins in six of their last seven overall, and in six of their last nine meetings with Vegas. Although these teams one prior meeting this season ending in a 1-0 Vegas victory that saw Robin Lehner post a 34-save shutout.
Recent trends say Wednesday’s bout will have a lot more than one goal though — the over has hit in 16 of Washington’s last 20 games and nine of their last 10 on the road. The over is also 22-14-3 in Vegas’ home outings this season and has hit in four of the last five opportunities.

Washington handed league-leading Colorado their 5th regulation loss on home ice this season in an impressive 3-2 win for the Caps Monday. Marcus Johansson scored the game’s final and winning goal in the third period, while Alex Ovechkin buried his team-leading 48th earlier on. Ovechkin is now fourth in the NHL in goals, and 14th in points (87) at 36 years old.
Ilya Samsonov got the win in net making 24 saves. Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek have nearly identical games and minutes played this season, and it’s Vanecek with the better numbers with a .909 save percentage to Samsonov’s .898. Vanecek should be between the pipes in Vegas.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas has endured consecutive crushing defeats in a 4-0 loss at Edmonton Saturday and Monday’s 3-2 defeat to 14th-place New Jersey Monday. Keegan Kolesar and Chandler Stephenson scored in a losing effort Monday that saw Vegas put up 44 shots to New Jersey’s 28.
Prior to these two losses, Vegas had scored at least four goals in three straight games but registered two on 83 shots over the long weekend. The Knights have had captain Mark Stone back in the lineup their past four games, but after a 26-game absence Stone has yet to make an impact on the score sheet.
