After big expectations before the season began, these two squads have the worst records in Canada and will be looking for answers before the losing catches up with them.

The Senators are the slight -130 favourite to win on tonight’s NHL odds with the total set at 6.5.

Canucks vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds

Over the past two seasons, the Canucks and Senators met 11 times thanks to the 2020 seasons all Canadian division. Over that stretch, the Canucks won seven times and played the Under in eight of the 11 meetings. Two of those games were played last season and each team picked up a road win splitting that season series 1-1.

The Canucks are off to a rough start this season, posting a 3-6-3 record and sitting in sixth place in the struggling Pacific Division. Despite their spotty record, they have been decent playing against the spread being 6-6 ATS on the year. Their games have been high scoring to start the season, going 8-4 on the OVER/UNDER, thanks to some terrible defence, allowing four goals against per game (28th in NHL).

The Senators’ five-game losing streak has dropped them into last place in the Atlantic Division with a 4-7 record. They have covered the spread twice during their losing streak putting them to 7-4 ATS. Their latest matchup on Saturday played the UNDER, snapping a three-game trend to the OVER. They are now 6-5 to the OVER on the season.

Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver added to their embarrassing season Saturday night, in their 4-3 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators. The Canucks were up 3-0 in the first period then blew the lead and did not even register a shot on net in the shootout. This was the fifth multi-goal lead the Canucks have blown in this early season making their 3-6-3 record even more troubling.

In the past, Vancouver could rely on netminder Thatcher Demko to steal a game or two but he has not been so good this year. The 26-year-old American has one win in nine starts with a 3.9 goals against average and a .879 save percentage.

J.T. Miller has been their most consistent forward this season with 12 points (7G, 5A) in 12 games and is riding a six-game point streak scoring nine points in the stretch. He has 20 points in 33 career games versus the Ottawa Senators and will look to start hot tonight.

The Canucks play on back-to-back nights and will be in Montreal to face the Canadiens on Wednesday.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators have now lost five in a row after dropping their Saturday night matchup 2-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers. Claude Giroux opened the scoring with his 300th career goal and his first ever versus his former squad giving him at least one against every team in the league. The goal extended the 34-year-old’s point streak to five games, where he has posted six points (4G, 2A).

Cam Talbot got his first start as an Ottawa Senator, stopping 26 of 28 shots, keeping his team in the game. He was acquired via trade in the offseason from the Minnesota Wild.

The Senators’ biggest off-season acquisition, winger Alex Debrincat has been struggling to fit in with his new squad posting just two goals through 11 contests. The highest-paid Senator leads the team with 49 shots on net and has nine points.

Ottawa will be wrapping up their homestand tonight, before hitting the road on Thursday.
