Vancouver Canucks vs. New York Rangers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Canucks are drawing plenty of eyes to their games. They won their first game of the post-Quinn Hughes era, and writing is on the wall for Vancouver to unload more assets. As their roster continues to fluctuate, it will be interesting to see how the new additions adjust.
The Rangers have not been without drama themselves. This team has been hot and cold, and they sit outside the playoff picture as they near the season’s halfway point. New York has been brutal at home, which will need to change if they want to keep pace in the Eastern Conference. Tuesday will be a good litmus test for them.
The Rangers are slim -120 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 5.5.
Canucks vs. Rangers NHL Betting Odds
Neither the Canucks nor the Rangers enter this game in strong form. The Canucks have just four wins in their last 16 games. What could help them tonight is that Vancouver has been far better on the road this season than at home. The same is true for New York, which also bodes well for the Canucks.
On Monday, the Rangers lost 4-1, bringing their home record to 4-9-3 on the season. That makes the Rangers the second-worst home team in the NHL, only worse than the Canucks. Home form aside, New York enters this game with one win in their last five games, with two of those losses being by three goals.
Vancouver Canucks
Although trading Hughes to the Wild was a gut-punch, Minnesota’s price was hefty. In addition to a first-round pick, the Canucks acquired a top-six centre, Marco Rossi, a talented young defenceman, Zeev Buium, and a former first-round pick, Liam Ohgren. That makes three immediate NHL-ready players and still a first-round pick to come.
All three of Vancouver’s new acquisitions played well on Sunday, especially Buium. In 19:50 of ice-time, Buium collected a goal and an assist in the Canucks’ 2-1 win over the Devils. It seems counterintuitive, but there is reason for fans to be excited about the new core of this team that likely will continue growing. Vancouver should come out with some added jump on Tuesday, coming off a win with their new-look team.
New York Rangers
The Rangers lost ground in the Eastern Conference standings with their loss on Monday. While they are just two points out of the last wild card spot, there are now four teams separating them from a playoff spot. Each of those teams has games in hand on the Rangers.
There is still over half a season to play, so New York isn’t panicking, yet. But the East is still crowded, the Rangers have the third-lowest point percentage in the conference, and they’re awful at home. This team really needs to find consistency if they’re going to be playing meaningful hockey come spring.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Canucks vs. Rangers?
There is a slimmer margin of error in this one than would typically appear between teams separated by nine points in the league standings. The Rangers are searching for answers, have been bad at home, and will be playing their second game in as many nights.
While losing Quinn Hughes is far from ideal, it’s one less distraction in that locker room. This Canucks team has a new look and talented players looking to make an impact. The Canucks will ride this jolt of energy into a strong effort on Tuesday against a struggling Rangers team. The Canucks bring good value as the underdog to take this one by a high-scoring 4-3 final.
