Both teams entered the new season with very different expectations. The Canucks are in the midst of a lengthy rebuild, while the Panthers are looking to make another deep playoff run.
Both teams have started the new season in disappointing fashion. Vancouver enters this matchup with a record of 2-6-0 while Florida is 3-2-2. This will be the first meeting of the season between these teams.

On the puck line, Panthers -1.5 is valued at -116, while Vancouver +1.5 is -104. The game total is set at 6.5, with odds of +107 to the Over and -127 on the Under.
At +135, Florida’s Sam Reinhart has the shortest odds of any player to score a goal in this game. Reinhart scored 29 goals in 64 games last season, and is off to a hot start with four goals through seven games to start the 2026-27 season.
With odds of +240, Vancouver’s Jake DeBrusk has the shortest odds of any Canuck to score a goal in the contest. DeBrusk led the Canucks with 23 goals last season, and has potted three goals through six games to start the new campaign.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks posted an NHL-low 58 points last season. It was the low point of what has been a woeful couple of years in Vancouver, as the franchise officially entered rebuild mode last winter by trading away Quinn Hughes to the Wild.
The Canucks entered the new season expected to be among the worst teams in the NHL once again in 2026-27. There are some bright spots and young talent with promise, but it appears it will be some time before the Canucks are contending again.
Paul Cotter leads the Canucks with four goals so far this season. He had just nine goals all of last season with New Jersey, but is taking on a bigger role in Vancouver.
That includes playing approximately five more minutes per game this season than he did last season. Elias Pettersson is also off to a strong start with nine points on two goals and seven assists.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers made the playoffs in six consecutive seasons from 2020-2025 which culminated in back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
However, that playoff streak was snapped last season as Florida battled a handful of injuries and missed the playoffs by finishing with 84 points.
The big offseason acquisition for the Panthers was Brady Tkachuk, who joins his brother Matthew in Sunrise. Brady started slow this season, but broke through with a hat trick and four-point performance in Florida’s last outing against Columbus.
Matthew Tkachuk currently leads the team with 10 points on three goals and seven assists through seven games. The Panthers will be without Brad Marchand for at least another month with a leg injury he sustained last week.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Canucks vs. Panthers?
The Panthers are massive favorites in this matchup, and they should be able to take care of business in emphatic fashion. Even with Marchand sidelined, Florida has a much deeper forward group and plenty of elite playmaking ability to go around. The Canucks have plenty of youth, and a handful of players still learning to play at the NHL level. The Canucks are also just 1-4-0 on the road this season. Florida should win this one handily.
Best Bet: Florida Panthers -1.5
