Canucks vs. Blues NHL Betting Odds

These two clubs are largely in the same boat in the Western Conference as both have underachieved and are on the outside of the playoff field looking in but also close to a Wild-Card spot, so winning the season series could be important.

Monday marks the second of three regular-season meetings with the finale on March 20 also in St. Louis. On Dec. 10 in Vancouver, the Blues were 4-3 overtime winners as +145 underdogs (total was 5.5). The Canucks had rallied from down 3-1 late in the second to tie on a Jake DeBrusk goal with about two minutes left in regulation, but Dylan Holloway won it at 1:40 of OT. Robert Thomas had a short-handed goal and two assists for the Blues and Joel Hofer stopped 22 shots. It was the season debut for Vancouver goalie Thatcher Demko off a knee issue, and he made 21 saves. Elias Pettersson had a goal and assist. J.T. Miller was away from the club then but is back now.

St. Louis is one of a handful of clubs to have made a head coaching change this season, firing Drew Bannister in late November when the club was 9-12-1 and replacing him with former Stars and Bruins coach and Montreal native Jim Montgomery, under whom the Blues are 14-11-3.

The Blues are 8-2 in the past 10 meetings, and the over-under is 4-5-1.

Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver hasn’t won back-to-back games since Nov. 29 & Dec. 1 but has a shot Monday as it snapped a two-game skid with a 2-1 home upset victory over Washington on Saturday. Quinn Hughes had both goals and is up to 14 on the season, while fellow blueliner Filip Hronek had two helpers. It was Hughes’ sixth career multi-goal game, one shy of Mattias Ohlund (seven) for the most by a Canucks defenceman. Hughes’ six goals in January are one shy of tying the most by a Vancouver blueliner in any month in franchise history. Kevin Lankinen stopped 32 of 33 shots, but it’s probably back to Thatcher Demko here. He’s 0-2-1 on the road this year with a 3.42 GAA and .876 SV. Winger Kiefer Sherwood (13G, 8A) was out with an undisclosed injury and is day-to-day. Defenceman Tyler Myers (2G, 11A) served the final game of his suspension and will return Monday. The Canucks are 1-5 in their past six on the road.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues lost their second game in a row Saturday, 2-0 at home vs. Dallas as Stars backup Casey DeSmith pitched the shutout. Coach Jim Montgomery shook up the struggling St. Louis lineup by putting rookie Zack Bolduc on All-Star centre Robert Thomas’ line, but that didn’t spark the offence. The Blues had been one of only four NHL teams that had not been blanked this season. They did outshoot the Stars 21-10 after the first period, but hit multiple posts and missed several high-danger scoring chances. No. 1 goaltender Jordan Binnington fell to 13-18-3 with a 2.84 GAA and .898 SV and likely gets the start again Monday. The Blues are 6-1 in their past seven Monday games.
