Montreal Canadiens vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds

Tonight will be their tenth and final meeting of the year, as the pesky Sens will look to spoil Montreal’s climb into third place in the North.

Canadiens vs. Senators 5/5/21 Betting Analysis

The -161 favourite Habs team has a chance to even the season series 5-5 and extend their own win streak to four games. Currently, they are tied for third in the division with Winnipeg, while the Senators were the first team to be eliminated from playoff contention in the North division. 73 percent of bettors have sided with the Canadiens.

The Senators have covered the spread nine of their last ten games and in seven of the nine matchups with Montreal, putting them 32-20 on the year.

The total is 5.5 goals, but they have played the over only twice in nine meetings. The Sens are 7-17-2 on the over/under when they are playing at home, plus they have played the under in nine of their past ten. The Habs have been less consistent going 4-6 over their last ten.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens have won three games in a row for the first time in a month and they are doing it in dramatic fashion. All three wins have been come from behind victories and they are doing without key pieces of their lineup. Captain Shea Weber, assistants Brendan Gallagher and Paul Byron, Jonathan Drouin, Tomas Tatar and Carey Price are all sidelined with injuries.

Luckily, the players that are healthy have stepped up big time. Nick Suzuki has 10 points in his last six games, Jeff Petry picked up a goal seven assists in the last five and Tyler Toffoli is riding a three-game goal streak. Of course, the wins would not have been possible without 20-year-old Cole Caufield who became the first Canadiens rookie to score back-to-back overtime goals.

Ottawa Senators

Despite being the first Canadian team to be eliminated from the postseason, Ottawa has put together a pretty decent end to their season. They are 7-2-1 over their past ten and have been great at playing spoiler for the teams ahead of them. Nikita Zaitsev broke the tie on Monday night against Winnipeg to hand them their seventh loss in a row. They won the game but ended up losing their top defenceman Thomas Chabot in the first period after taking a hard hit into the boards. Chabot has six goals, 31 points and averages 26:17 of time on ice this year and leaves a huge hole to fill for the last four games of the year. Drake Batherson has been kryptonite for the Habs this season, picking up five goals and six assists so far.
