Montreal Canadiens vs. Los Angeles Kings Prediction, NHL Odds
The Kings’ Phillip Danault and the Canadiens’ Tyler Toffoli will each be playing against their old teams for the first time as the Canadiens enter the Staples Center to face the Kings for the first time since 2019. Jake Allen’s 45 save shutout powered the Habs to their second win of the season Thursday night in San Jose.
The Kings are -117 favourites to win on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5.
Canadiens vs. Kings NHL Betting Odds
The worst team in the Atlantic Division, Montreal has won two of their past three after dropping the first five games to open the season. LA has slipped to last place in the Pacific Division thanks to their current six game losing streak.
These teams have only met eight times since 2014. The Kings won six of them but the two most recent have gone to the Habs.
Both squads have seven games under their belt and they have each played to the under 5-2. The Canadiens are the second lowest scoring team in the league right now, but they have recently picked the pace, potting 11 goals over the past three games. The Kings are also struggling to put the puck in the net at 2.3 goals per game, good for 26th in the NHL.
Montreal Canadiens
Jake Allen made a couple incredible saves Thursday night to secure his first shutout as a Montreal Canadien. Allen has been the Habs best player since opening night, but hasn’t had much to show for it, rocking a 2.60 goals against average and .913 save percentage.
Forward Mike Hoffman has scored in each of the past three games. After missing the first few games of the season with an injury, Hoffman has found his groove on the top forward line and top powerplay.
Tyler Toffoli was traded from the Kings to the Canucks in 2020, before the Habs signed him as a free agent. Toffoli showed the Canucks what they passed on last season by notching 13 points in their eight meetings.
Los Angeles Kings
After six seasons and a Cinderella run to the Stanley Cup final with the Montreal Canadiens, Phillip Danault signed a juicy six-year 33 million dollar deal with the LA Kings. Danault has scored a goal and added an assist while averaging 17:22 of icetime a game.
The Kings scored six goals in their opening night win over Vegas, but have failed to score more than 3 in a game since then. Anze Kopitar was red hot to start the season picking up nine points in four games, but has hit a slump and has no points in his last three.
The Kings lost their best defenceman Drew Doughty last week and it has been announced that he will miss a minimum of eight weeks with a knee injury.
