Montreal Canadiens
Montreal was a 4-3 shootout winner in Buffalo on Monday to avoid playoff elimination. Brendan Gallagher’s sixth goal of the season and 200th career forced overtime, and Michael Pezzetta scored the decisive shootout goal in the sixth round. The Canadiens selected Gallagher in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Draft. Only eight players selected at that year’s draft have scored 200 goals. Jake Allen was in net, but it will be Cayden Primeau here after getting called up from the AHL’s Laval Rocket on Monday. He was 14-14-6 with a 3.13 GAA and .906 SV there and is 3-10-2 with a 4.18 GAA and .873 SV in 19 career NHL appearances. He has played a total of 20 minutes in the league this year, coming in relief on Jan. 19 vs. Florida. The Canadiens are 0-4 in their past four playing a third game in four nights.
Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia comes off its third straight win, 3-0 over visiting Detroit on Saturday. Kieffer Bellows (third of season), Scott Laughton (18th) and Tyson Foerster (third) had the goals. Carter Hart was the No. 1 star with 29 saves and has personally won his past four. Winger Nicolas Deslauriers (5G, 6A) was out with an upper-body injury. Bellows took his place again and cashed in on the opportunity. Philadelphia was 7-for-7 on the penalty kill and has at least one point in five straight games. On their season-long seven-game homestand, the Flyers are 4-1-1 and have averaged 4.17 goals per game. The Flyers are 12-4 in their past 16 playing on two days of rest.
