The Canadiens’ overtime struggles continued on Monday and they now boast a 0-6 record in extra time. Carey Price has found his groove again, posting a .965 save percentage and a 0.98 goals against average in his three starts so far in March. Defenceman Jeff Petry scored the only goal of the game on the powerplay, adding to his Norris trophy buzz. The Habs veteran has nine goals and 23 points in 24 games, currently second for defenceman in the NHL. The new coaching staff is starting to make a difference on the special teams and their powerplay is currently five for its last 11 since former Canuck Alex Burrows took over responsibilities.
Vancouver Canucks
Adam Gaudette hammered a Bo Horvat pass past the Habs goalie with less than a minute to go and sent the game to overtime. It was Gaudette’s first goal in 16 games and his second against Montreal this year. Horvat netted the shootout winner for the second time against Montreal. He’s had his fun playing against them this season, scoring four goals and three assists in six games.
Thatcher Demko kept the Canucks in it throughout the game, stopping 29 of 30 to solidify his fourth win in a row, posting a ridiculous 0.969 save percentage in that stretch. Coach Travis Green announced that center Elias Pettersson is still another week away from being ready to play with an upper body injury will make him miss his fourth in a row.
