Canadiens vs. Blues NHL Betting Odds
Saturday’s game will be the first of only two meetings between these teams this season. Montreal has dominated the Blues over the past three seasons, going 5-1. They swept the season series last year scoring five and seven goals, helping both games hit the over.
Blues Center Brayden Schenn has had success versus Montreal over his 800+ games career. He had three points in two games last year and 23 points (9G 14A) in 27 meetings all-time. Montreal’s dynamic duo, Nick Suzuki (1G 4A) and Cole Caufield (3G 1A) will look to stay hot after burying the Blues last season.
The Canadiens have been playing great hockey recently, playing in one-goal games in four straight games. Despite dropping their past two, they have covered the spread in both of those contests, improving their record against the spread to 6-4. The Habs are an even 5-5 on the Over/Under after playing three straight to the Under.
Only the bottom-feeding San Jose Sharks have scored fewer goals than the Blues this season who are averaging 2.1 goals per game. The lack of offence has helped the Blues play six straight games to the UNDER and a 1-7 record overall against the total. Tonight will be the second time this season they are playing back-to-back nights. Last time they got smoked five to nothing in the second half, but they were the visiting team in that contest.
Montreal Canadiens
Jake Allen turned away 32 of 35 shots but the offence came up short in the Habs 3-2 loss in Arizona. They have opened their current three-game road trip with back-to-back losses and will wrap up the set on Saturday night in St. Louis.
Sean Monahan opened the scoring with his team-leading sixth of the season, tucking in four straight games. Brendan Gallagher had an assist on the opener and followed that up with his third goal of the season and his 400th career NHL point.
Raphael Harvey-Pinard left with a lower-body injury will likely be missing from Montreal’s top line versus the Blues.
Coach Martin St. Louis has to impress with his squad’s 5-3-2 record in the opening 10 games this season, putting them fourth in the division, exceeding anyone’s expectations.
St. Louis Blues
Jordan Binnington put the team on his back last night, holding the high-powered New Jersey Devils to just a single goal on 34 shots, his best performance of the year. Jake Neighbours opened the scoring midway through the second period, before offseason acquisition Kevin Hayes scored his first as a Blue to make it 2-0 St. Louis. They held onto a 2-1 lead until late in the third, before the Devils pulled the goalie and the boys netted two more in the empty cage.
Hayes finished the night with two goals and a helper, his first goals and his first multiple-point game with the new team.
The Blues have been solid at home this season and now have the chance to turn their early season woes in the right direction. If they can manage wins in back-to-back and climb above .500, the outlook would be much better in a wide-open Central Division.
