Both squads came up short in last year’s postseason, getting bounced earlier than expected in round one.

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will begin his quest to become just the third player in league history to score 800 career goals. The Capitals are a slight -148 favourite to win tonight on the NHL odds with a total of 6.

Bruins vs. Capitals NHL Betting Odds

The Bruins finished their pre-season with a 3-3 record after dropping their final game to the New Jersey Devils Saturday, while Washington won back-to-back games to wrap up their pre-season putting up a 4-2 record.

The Bruins took last year’s season series edging the Capitals 2-1 and out scoring them 13-10 in those matchups.

On Sports Interaction’s NHL futures board the Bruins have the 13th highest odds to win the Stanley Cup at +2419 and the Capitals are not far behind at 15th with +3095.

Living legend Alexander Ovechkin is entering his 18th season in the NHL only 20 goals shy of 800 at 780. After his 9th career 50 goal season last year he will certainly achieve that milestone and you can bet on who he scores it on, with our NHL props board.

Boston Bruins

After six seasons as Boston’s bench boss, making the playoffs every year, the B’s fired head coach Bruce Cassidy after a disappointing first round exit in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes. His replacement; former Dallas Stars head coach Jim Montgomery.

The new head coach will be starting the season short handed, with two of his best players on the injured reserve. Winger Brad Marchand and defenceman Charlie Mcavoy will both be sidelined until about November or December.

The newly formed all Czechia line of David Krejci, David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha has had great chemistry in the preseason. Krejci is returning to Boston after playing a season in Europe and Zacha was acquired in a trade from the New Jersey Devils during the off-season.

Washington Capitals

The Caps waved goodbye to their goalie tandem of Vitek Vanecek and Ilya Samsonov over the offseason after they split duties last season. In their place is a reigning Stanley Cup champion with the Colorado Avalanche, 6-foot-5 netminder Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren to back him up.

Other notable additions are forwards Ryan Strome and Connor Brown, who are both slated to be playing in the teams top six. Strome a 25-year-old center, signed as a free agent after spending the past four seasons in Chicago. The third overall pick back in 2015 put up 170 points in 273 career games thus far. Looks like Brown will get the opportunity of a lifetime, playing on a line with Ovechkin. The ageing Caps are going to be without forwards Carl Hagelin, Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom to open their season, as the three are down with injuries

Washington is back in action Thursday night taking on the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
