Boston Bruins vs. Montreal Canadiens Prediction, NHL Odds

Boston continues to roll after winning the President’s Trophy a couple of weeks ago. They now hold the NHL record for the number of points amassed in a regular season campaign with 133. Montreal did its best this season with…68.

The NHL odds favour the visiting Bruins as they sit at -316 on the moneyline and -121 on the puckline. The total has been tabulated at 6.5.

Bruins vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

Boston and Montreal will have only played three games with one another this season despite being long-standing rivals in the same division. No one will be surprised to learn that the big bad Bruins won the first two, although they were a bit closer than expected. Each finished 4-2.

Jim Montgomery’s ensemble has continued its march into the history books after capturing the President’s Trophy. Since then the club has conquered six more games, including against the playoff-bound Devils and Maple Leafs, so it isn’t as if their metal hasn’t been tested recently. Boston’s scoring hasn’t “fallen off” but they spent most of the year atop the league and now rank second. The under has indeed connected in four of the last eight contests.

Le Tricolore and its fanbase are probably relieved the 2022-2023 campaign closes tonight. In one sentence, it was a disaster. The Stanley Cup final appearance feels like it happened two decades ago rather than two summers ago. The club heads into their concluding date as losers of six of the past seven games, with a lot of terribly one-sided final scores.

Boston Bruins

One would think the boys from Beantown would have taken their foot off the gas pedal slightly after securing home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs, yet they just keep on winning games.

Tuesday night was the final home contest before the postseason and the moribund Washington Capitals were in town. The visitors put up a bit of resistance by cutting two two-goal deficits to one in both the second and third periods, but they were always second-best in the game. Brad Marchand (21st) got the ball rolling on the powerplay to break a scoreless deadlock before Tyler Bertuzzi (eighth) also padded the powerplay stats. Garnet Hathaway (13th) got the prettiest goal of the evening on a breakout from the Boston zone at the end of which Tomas Nosek sent a crisp pass across the crease that Hathaway gently tapped in to make it 4-2 in the final period. An empty net goal made the final 5-2 and a new regular season record. Business as usual.

Montreal Canadiens

The Habs stood in the way of a playoff birth for the host New York Islanders on Wednesday night. The good news was that, well, it was the Habs who stood in their way.

Despite that the Islanders got the job done 4-2 (thus eliminating the Penguins), it was Montreal’s Nick Suzuki who earned the highlight of the night. Down 3-1 in the second period, Montreal cleared the puck out of its zone. An Islander defenceman went for the disc nonchalantly, which allowed Suzuki to sneak up from behind. By the time he reached the puck he was down on one knee and batted it with one hand, providing enough air time and momentum to fool Ilya Sorokin. It was a pretty cool goal, although it didn’t change the outcome. Brock Nelson’s had a great year and he added to his tally with a brace (35th and 36h). Anders Lee (28th) put the game out of reach for the offence-deficient Habs in the third on the power play with the team’s third shot that found its way into the net off a deflection.
