Bruins vs. Blues Game 3 Prediction: NHL Playoffs Betting Odds
Through two games of the Stanley Cup final, everything is pointing to a tough grind-it-out finish between the Bruins and Blues. These two teams split the two games in Boston, with the Bruins slightly outscoring the opposition 6-5. Now, it’s a best-of-five series, starting Saturday night.
Bruins vs Blues Stanley Cup Betting Analysis
With two games in the books, the Bruins are still slight -147 favourites to win the Stanley Cup, while the Blues are coming in at +105. Can the Blues rattle off three straight games and win the series four games to one? If they do, the number is an impressive +725 at Sports Interaction. If should be noted, that result is the longest shot on the board for exact series results.
In the first two games of this match-up, the total is 1-1. Game two was a surprising under considering the first period saw the two teams combine for four goals, but then only saw one more (overtime) goal scored for the remainder of the game. The total for game three will be 5.5.
During this post season, both teams are 1-2 in the three game three games they’ve each played. In the regular season, these two teams split the two games, each winning in their own buildings.
Boston Bruins
The Bruins did not look like themselves in the late stages of regular time in game two, and it continued into overtime where they did not record a shot on goal in the extra frame.
Perhaps a concern, although not a major one just yet, is the play of Patrice Bergeron. Bergeron has not produced a point in the Stanley Cup final, and played just 16:16 in game two. Could the star centre be playing with an un-announced injury?
The good news is the team’s power-play continues to produce, scoring in its sixth straight game. They also have 19 power-play goals this post season, which is second in team post-season history, just behind the 24 goal they scored with the man-advantage in 1991.
Of note, the Bruins do enjoy playing on the road this season, where they are a remarkable 6-2 in eight games.
St. Louis Blues
Defenceman Carl Gunnarsson played the role of hero in game two, scoring the overtime winner to send the series back to St. Louis all tied up at one game each. Gunnarsson had a brilliant opportunity to end the game with just over two minutes left in regulation, but hit the goal post.
Now the team returns to Missouri where they have played ok this post season with a 5-5 record on home ice. One player that has been anything but ok has been Vladimir Tarasenko. Tarasenko enters this game on an eight game point scoring streak with five goals and five assists over that time. He also has scored a goal in four consecutive games. His 18 points overall this post season is two back of the leader Logan Couture. At the start of the Stanley Cup final he was a +1400 underdog to win the Conn Smythe winner, he now sits at +800.
The Blues received some bad news on their off-day Thursday as the NHL player safety department handed down a one-game suspension to Oskar Sundqvist for his hit on Matt Grzelcyk (not expected to play in game three). He will be eligible to return to the line-up for game four.
