Boston Bruins vs. Colorado Avalanche Prediction, NHL Odds
The Avalanche are coming off a crushing 6-2 loss to the visiting New York Islanders on Sunday and have now surrendered 20 total goals to fall to 0-3-0 and now face the prospect of going winless in four games to start a season for the first time since 1998. The Bruins open a three-game road trip in Colorado after seeing a two-game win streak snapped by Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Florida Panthers that drops their record to 2-2-0.
The Avalanche lead the way as slim -125 home favourites on the Wednesday NHL odds, and the Bruins trail as +1-5 underdogs. The total is pegged at 6.5.

The Bruins have held the upper hand in recent dates with Colorado, winning four of their past five meetings. However, the Avs have largely dominated when the Bruins come to town, winning five of six clashes at Ball Arena while averaging four goals per game over that stretch. These clubs split last year’s two-game season series, with each earning a win on home ice. The Bruins and Avs combined to score seven goals in each of those contests and have now seen the OVER go 3-1-2 over their past six matchups.

Bruins youngsters have taken a leading role in the club’s respectable 2-2-0 start to the season. In Sunday’s loss to Florida, Johnny Beecher flashed the form that made him a first-round in 2019, recording his first career multi-point performance with a goal and an assist and now has four points through the first four games of the season. A second-round pick in 2020, Mason Lohrei strengthened his grasp on a regular role patrolling the blue line with a goal and a helper and has now recorded three points in the past two games. Acquired as apart of the deal that sent Linus Ullmark to Ottawa, Mark Kastelic is already closing in on his point total of last season after recording a team-high five points in four games including a trio of helpers on Sunday night.
Overall, the Bruins attack has impressed while scoring 3.75 goals per game. However, netminder Jeremy Swayman has still shown signs of rust in three appearances after missing training camp and preseason due to a contract dispute. Swayman has allowed four goals in two of his three outings to date but has compiled an impressive .938 save percentage while going unbeaten in three career starts versus Colorado.
Colorado Avalanche
To say the Avalanche are enjoying a tough start to the season would be an understatement. The Avs have struggled on both sides of the puck during their season-opening three-game slide, allowing at least one goal in every period played to date while struggling to produce consistent offence. Overall, Colorado has held a lead for a total of under five minutes during their woeful start, and have been outscored by a combined margin of 7-3 in first-period action.
Goaltending has become a massive concern for this club. Starter Alexandar Georgiev has compiled a dismal .790 save percentage while getting rocked for 13 total goals in three appearances and has gotten the hook two times to date. Backup Justus Annunen has not been any better, allowing four total goals on 17 shots in his two relief appearances. However, the team’s top shooters have produced as expected. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar share the team lead with five points each while Mikko Rantanen and Casey Mittelstadt have combined to score six of the team’s 10 goals to date.
