The Carolina Hurricanes remain one of only two undefeated teams in the NHL.  Chicago’s 0-5-2 record, on the other hand, is ugly, as is the off-ice drama surrounding the Blackhawks.

The Hurricanes are -200 favourites to win on the NHL odds with a total of 6.0.

Blackhawks vs. Hurricanes NHL Betting Odds

The Hawks and Canes met up eight times last year in the COVID shortened season, with the Canes winning five.  Carolina outscored Chicago 30-22. The over went 5-3 last year and the Blackhawks managed to cover the spread five times.

The Hurricanes have been scoring 4.2 goals per game this year, good for fourth in the league. Combine that with the lowest goals-against total (8) and you have the recipe for an undefeated hockey team. That being said, they have only played the over twice, but have made bettors lots of money on the puckline, going 6-0.

Chicago remains winless on the season and they’ve only covered the spread twice.  They currently have the second-highest goals-against average in the NHL and the fourth lowest-scoring offence.

Chicago Blackhawks

Things went from bad to worse in Chicago after rumblings of a sexual assault scandal have only intensified with specific accusations made public. It’s alleged that key members of Blackhawks management let a former video coach get away with sexually assaulting a player during the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs. The consequences for such alleged negligence involved a long list of resignations and firings. Hawks GM Stan Bowman and Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Al MacIsaac, the only remaining members of the 2010 head office, have both stepped down from their positions. Their head coach at the time, Joel Quenneville, has also stepped down as head coach of the undefeated Florida Panthers.

The product on the ice has not been good either. After going up 2-0 in the first period at home versus Toronto on Wednesday, Chicago blew the lead and lost 3-2 in overtime.

Patrick Kane, Jujhar Khaira and Riley Stillman are all going to miss time due to COVID protocol, making the Blackhawks’ quest for their first win of the season that much tougher.

Carolina Hurricanes

Antti Raanta is likely to make his first appearance in net for the Canes tonight, giving Frederik Andersen a much-needed day off. Raanta came to Carolina this offseason from Arizona, where he had spent the past four seasons, posting a career .919 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average.

Andrei Svechnikov is one of the hottest players in the NHL right now. He’s currently riding a six-game point streak, collecting six goals and four assists. If he can stay hot, the 21-year-old will blow by his career-high of 61 points in a year.

The Canes are not the only undefeated squad right now as Florida is 7-0. The longest undefeated streak to start an NHL season is 15 games, set by the 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers.
