Chicago Blackhawks vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds

Young star Connor Bedard and the improved Chicago Blackhawks make their only visit of the season to Calgary on Friday night with the Flames as -160 favourites on the NHL odds with a total of 6.5 goals.

Blackhawks vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

Just four games on Friday’s NHL slate – always a quiet night ahead of busy Saturdays – with Calgary one of two Canadian teams in action along with Winnipeg visiting San Jose. It’s the first of three meetings between the Flames and Blackhawks, but the only one in Calgary. The Flames visit the Windy City on Nov. 18 and Jan. 15.

Calgary swept all three vs. Chicago last season, taking each by multiple goals. But the Blackhawks were quite terrible in 2024-25 and are much better this season so far. Matt Coronato (3G, 2A) led the Flames with five points in the series, while Jonathan Huberdeau (1G, 3A) had four. Dustin Wolf was in net for all three and had a 2.35 goals-against average and .918 save per centage.

Connor Bedard, the heralded former prospect from North Vancouver and top overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, led Chicago with four points (2G, 2A), while Teuvo Teravainen (3A) and Tyler Bertuzzi (2G, 1A) each had three. Petr Mrazek started all three in net and didn’t fare well, but he’s now the backup with the Anaheim Ducks. Spencer Knight is Chicago’s new No. 1 netminder after being acquired via trade from Florida last March.

The over is 9-4 in the past 13 meetings overall.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks are in the midst of a six-game trip and are 1-3 on it after snapping a three-game skid Wednesday with a 5-2 upset win in Vancouver. Amazingly, all seven goals were scored in the third period when I’m sure under bettors were already counting their money entering it. Tyler Bertuzzi had a had trick in the period for Chicago and is up to five goals on the year. Bertuzzi became the seventh Blackhawks player in the past 30 years to score a hat trick in a single period and the sixth in NHL history to score a hat trick for three Original Six teams (Chicago, Detroit and Toronto) career. Ilya Mikheyev (fourth of season) and Connor Bedard (seventh) also scored. Bedard added an assist and reached 146 career points, tying Hall of Famer Bobby Hull for the fourth most by a Blackhawks skater before age 21. Eddie Olczyk leads with 180. Bedard isn’t 21 until next July. The Blackhawks have scored first nine times, tied for the most instances in the NHL. No. 1 Spencer Knight was in net Wednesday and should be again Friday. The American has been significantly worse on the road with a 3.19 GAA compared to 1.95 at home. Chicago is 4-16 in its past 20 vs. the Western Conference.

Calgary Flames

Calgary is on a season-high two-game winning streak after a 5-1 home win over Columbus on Wednesday in easily one of the Flames’ best efforts of the season. Nazem Kadri was the No. 1 star with a goal in his 1,000th career game. He became the second Flames player to score while skating in their 1,000th career game, following Martin Gelinas on Dec. 9, 2003. Calgary scored twice in the opening 92 seconds — the 10th-fastest two goals to start a game in franchise history. Dustin Wolf made 42 saves, the highest save total in a win by a Flames goaltender since Jacob Markstrom had 46 on Feb. 10, 2022. It should be Wolf again Friday, and the American is 2-3-1 with a 2.20 GAA at home. Young blueliner Yan Kuznetsov was called up from AHL Calgary on Tuesday and then had an assist Wednesday in his season debut and only second career NHL game. The Flames will try to end an eight-game skid against the Western Conference.
