Colorado has been great over the past month picking up points in 10 of their past 11 games, while the Habs have only one regulation loss in their past 12 contests after pushing their game to overtime on Thursday.

The visiting Avalanche are the -172 favourite on the NHL odds, with the game total opening at an even 6 goals. The puck will drop from the Bell Centre in downtown Montreal at 7:00 PM ET.

Avalanche vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

The Canadiens pulled out a shootout win in their first meeting of the season in January, making it three straight wins over Colorado after sweeping them in last season’s two-game series. Cole Caufield scored the only goal for Montreal in the game and added another in the shootout to help the Canadiens win. Both goalies faced just over 20 shots in that one but Jakob Dobes stood out for Montreal making huge saves late to keep the team alive.

Seven of these past 10 head-to-heads have been one-goal games and the Avs lead the set 6-4. Only two of those meetings have hit the OVER and Montreal has covered the spread eight times.

Colorado is the favourite in almost every game they play, making their 31-39 record against the spread pretty solid. They have covered seven of their past 10, but just twice in their past five. They have the fifth-highest scoring offence in the league potting 3.33 goals per game. Their record on the OVER/UNDER is 32-33-5 and played the UNDER just once in the past four.

After getting shut out almost two weeks ago the Canadiens offence has been clicking, scoring three or more in five straight games, playing the OVER in four of them. The Canadiens have been making bettors cash on the spread this season covering 40 of their 68 games. Only four teams have covered the spread more than them so far and they are on an extraordinary run of seven straight covers.

Colorado Avalanche

After opening their Eastern Conference road trip with a loss in Toronto on Wednesday, the Avalanche had a quick turnaround playing in Ottawa on Thursday. They were dominant versus the Senators scoring four goals in seven minutes in the first period, putting the game out of reach quickly. They held the Sens to just 16 shots and threw 33 on the Sens’ netminder in the 5-1 win.

Brock Nelson potted his first two goals as an Av after being picked up at the deadline from the New York Islanders. Cale Makar also had a two-point night, notching a powerplay goal and adding an assist.

Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring, extending his point streak to three games, getting him to 105 points (28G, 77A) on the campaign. The 29-year-old is climbing the list as the favourite for the Hart Trophy, sitting third at +340. Place your bets on him to repeat as the MVP on the NHL Futures Board

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal managed to pick up a point on Thursday night keeping them in the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference with a two-point lead. The Canadiens deserved a better result than they got in that game, outshooting the New York Islanders 41-25.

Joshua Roy scored his first of the season late in the first to tie things up headed into the intermission. The Islanders would score back-to-back before Patrick Laine’s powerplay marker would bring them back within one. Brendan Gallagher would cash in on a breakaway to tie things and send it to overtime.

If the Habs continue their current streak they may sneak into the postseason. The NHL Futures Board has them at +145 to make the playoffs which looks good with 14 games left on the schedule. Rookie defenceman Lane Hutson is also the second favourite for the Calder Trophy paying out at +100, behind only Macklin Celebrini. Hutson leads all rookies in scoring and is third on the Habs with 53 (5G, 48A).
