Quarterback Geno Smith (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice after leaving Sunday night’s 30-13 letdown loss to Green Bay. Backup Sam Howell went 5 of 14 for 24 yards in Smith’s absence, solidifying how important the latter is to Seattle’s success. And success is paramount from here on out, as last week’s loss dropped Seattle to 8-6 which is now second in the NFC West and not good enough for a playoff spot.

Minnesota made it seven consecutive wins when they defeated Chicago 30-12 on Monday night. The 12-2 Vikings are now tied for the NFC North lead, which is now the target after clinching a playoff berth midway through December.

Kickoff at Lumen Field gets started at 4:05 p.m. EST with Minnesota a three-point road favourite and the over-under at 43.5 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Last Sunday’s loss put Seattle at 3-5 on home field this season. All five losses have been by at least six points too, and three by double digits. Seattle’s covered in one of their last six home games. Minnesota’s gone 5-1 on the road this season but have struggled to pull away in their road wins, outside of season-opening 28-6 win at New York.

Head-to-head, the Vikings are 0-5 in their last five trips to Seattle. Four of the last five Vikings–Seahawks games have finished under the total. Minnesota’s fourth in the NFL with 18 points against per contest but have also been doing damage offensively with 30 or more points in three of their last four wins. Seattle’s scored no more than 20 points in any of their last four home games.

Minnesota Vikings

A 11-2 record is more than the Vikings could have asked for after the off-season QB decisions, leading to a season as Sam Darnold as the starter. Darnold’s delivered this season with a career-best 3,530 yards and 29 touchdowns and has a legitimate shot to get both of those numbers start with a four by season’s end. Free agent addition Aaron Jones is now 21 yards shy of his fourth 1,000-yard rushing season in what’s another off-season addition that’s paid off.

All of the offensive success is being complemented by a top defence though that is coming together as the post-season nears. Brian Flores’ unit held Chicago to 12 points on Monday, which is the eighth time Minnesota has held their opposition to under 20 points this season.

Seattle Seahawks

The most important news in Seattle is quarterback Geno Smith appears to be fine after suffering a knee injury last Sunday night. Smith’s covered up what’s clearly a below average offensive line in front of him, and one that got exposed in the 30-13 loss to Green Bay last week. Seattle may get a boost elsewhere on offence though as there appears to be a good choice running back Kenneth Walker III starts to practice, and possibly return. Zach Charbonnet, who’s going through an oblique injury now, has filled in for Walker the last two weeks and done an admirable job all season with 454 rushing yards and another 275 through the air.

Second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is six yards away from his first 1,000-yard season. The 2023 first-round pick leads Seattle in receiving, recording at least 70 yards in six straight games.
