The home side is a 3.5-point favourite on the NFL odds with a total of 34 points.

NFL Preseason Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Minnesota and Las Vegas don’t play in the 2022 regular season and this will be the first time the Vikings will ever visit Allegiant Stadium. The teams last met in the preseason in 2015 and in the regular season in 2019 in the Twin Cities when the Vikings won 34-14. Dalvin Cook rushed for 110 yards and a TD, and Kirk Cousins threw for 174 and a touchdown. Derek Carr threw for 242 with two TDs and a pick for the Raiders. Darren Waller caught 13 passes for 134 yards.

First-year Raiders coach Josh McDaniels is 3-6 in his preseason career dating to his first head coaching stint with Denver. It will be the head coaching debut of the Vikings’ Kevin O’Connell, formerly the Rams’ offensive coordinator. Minnesota couldn’t hire him until the Rams’ 2022 season was over and that didn’t end until a victory in Super Bowl 56. Other finalists were Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, then-Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Minnesota Vikings

We can’t assume what new Coach Kevin O’Connell will do in the preseason, but his former boss Sean McVay of the Rams rarely played starters in any exhibition games. O’Connell was Minnesota QB Kirk Cousins’ quarterbacks coach in Cousins’ final year in Washington in 2017. Top tight end Irv Smith will miss the preseason after having recent thumb surgery but should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Smith missed the entire 2021 season after having surgery to repair meniscus damage in his right knee. The team’s 2021 starter, Tyler Conklin, departed via free agency to the Jets. Meanwhile, the Vikings have transitioned to a 3-4 base defence for the first time since 1985 under new coordinator Ed Donatell. That may be a reason to get the defensive starters at least a few snaps.

Las Vegas Raiders

It’s the second preseason game for the Raiders as they beat Jacksonville 27-11 in the Hall of Fame Game last Thursday in Canton, Ohio. Las Vegas starting QB Derek Carr didn’t play. No. 1 running back Josh Jacobs did play in a surprise and had five carries for 30 yards amid some trade rumours – which Coach Josh McDaniels has since squashed even though Jacobs can hit free agency after this season. The team has been very impressed by fourth-round rookie Zamir White out of Georgia. He had 11 carries for 54 yards and three catches for 23 yards against Jacksonville. McDaniels hasn’t said if or how long any starters might play Sunday. Jarrett Stidham, Nick Mullens and Chase Garbers should get the majority of snaps under centre.
