The Lions saw their record dip to an NFL-worst 0-10-1 with a heartbreaking 16-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day. The Vikings travel to the Motor City looking to rebound from a 34-26 loss in San Francisco that snapped a two-game straight up win streak.

Despite garnering the support of 80% of sports bettors, the Vikings have faded to 7-point road favourites since opening as 7.5-point chalk. The total has also been in steady decline. With the UNDER attracting 69% of betting action, the total has dipped to 46.5 after opening at 48.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s matchup marks the second and final meeting of these season between these long-time divisional rivals. The Vikings escaped with a narrow 19-17 victory as 10-point home chalk back in Week 5, and have now taken home the outright win in eight straight dates with the Lions, including their past four visits to Detroit. However, Minnesota has been far from dominant in their past two dates with the Lions.

In addition to this season’s narrow win, the Vikings were fortunate to eke out a narrow 37-35 win as 3-point favourites at Ford Field in Week 17 of last season, which snapped the team’s six-game against the spread win streak in head-to-head action. The Vikings have also struggled to contain the Lions attack at times in recent road meetings, surrendering 32.5 points per game over their past two visits.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings will be searching for answers after suffering their fourth loss in six road games with last week’s defeat at the hands of the 49ers. Defensive woes have been a particular problem on the road, where they have allowed 29.5 points per game. That has generated a boon for sports bettors taking the OVER, which has gone 5-1 on the road this season. But while giving up big points to the anemic Lions attack is less of a concern, scoring points against a stingy Detroit defence may be a challenge. The loss of rusher Dalvin Cook to a shoulder injury does not help matters. However, Cook’s absence opens the door for Alexander Mattison, who piled up a season-high 133 rushing yards against Detroit in Week 5.

Detroit Lions

Thanksgiving Day brought more heartbreak to the hard-luck Lions, who saw defeat snatched from the jaws of victory with no time left on the clock for the third time this season. The Bears clinched an ugly win by hitting a field goal as time expired, following in the footsteps of both the Vikings and Baltimore Ravens, who each eked out narrow wins in the same fashion earlier this season. Overall, the Lions have lost by a combined margin of just five points over their past two defeats. However, Detroit faces obstacles in their bid to claim a fourth straight against the spread win, and first outright win since last December. In particular, the absence of injured rusher D’Andre Swift hobbles a Lions ground game that has produced six of the team’s nine scores over the past seven games.
