Vikings vs. Lions Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction
This is the first of two regular-season matchups this season between the division rivals, and as usual, it should be a spirited affair.
The division is still well up for grabs after eight weeks of the NFL season, as the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears have also posted similar records. This is a huge game to see if the Lions can possibly take over first in the division, or if the Vikings can close the gap.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Both the Vikings (3-4) and Lions (5-2) have the same ATS record as their overall record. The Vikings have lost two straight games, and three of their past four. The Lions, meanwhile, have won five of their past six games.
Within the game totals on the NFL odds board, the Vikings quite often see themselves in high-scoring games, with the over hitting in six of seven contests. As for Detroit, the over has hit in just three of seven games.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are coming off an incredible 2024-25 season with a 14-3 record, but have already accumulated more losses this year with a 3-4 record. The season is not getting any younger, and by no means are they playing their best right now.
The Vikings have lost two straight games while giving up 65 points, and have lost three of the past four. Luckily, there is not a major lead in the NFC North, but they will need to ramp up the intensity in trying to take down a stacked Lions team.
Veteran running back Aaron Jones returned to the lineup last week, and rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy is expected to start in his first game since September 14. However, the team is banged up with many players questionable heading into this game. They will be in a tough spot here.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are seen as one of the most threatening teams in the entire NFL, and their 5-2 record speaks to this. They have lost just one game in their last six, and look poised to win yet again when they host Minnesota.
Like most teams, the Lions have a long list of banged-up players, but most importantly, their key contributors on both sides of the ball are primed and ready. Since taking over the Lions in 2021, head coach Dan Campbell has inserted himself as one of the best coaches in the league and has his team running like a well-oiled machine.
This is a very favourable matchup as they are a dynamic team that can run up the scoreboard and have home-field advantage.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Vikings vs. Lions?
The Lions come into this game as heavy favourites, and rightfully so. They are on an absolute tear and show no signs of slowing down. I think Detroit can beat any team in this league, let alone an opponent who the jury is still out on. Minnesota needs to turn their slump around ASAP, but this is unlikely to be the game they do it in. I predict a final score of 31-16 for the Detroit Lions.
