Vikings vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Week 10 Odds, Prediction
The Chargers snapped a two-game slide with last week’s 27-24 win in Philadelphia, and now sit alongside Las Vegas atop the divisional standings with a 5-3 record. The Vikings travel to the coast on the rebound after dropping a 34-31 decision in Baltimore last weekend, but have covered in three straight road contests.
The Chargers have steadily captured the interest of sports bettors, attracting 60% of bets. That has lifted Los Angeles to a 3-point favourite, sporting -120 odds of covering, after opening at -2.5. After taking an early dip to 51.5, the total has also made steady gains, climbing to 53.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup at SoFi Stadium marks the first meeting between these teams since December 2019. The Vikings have taken home the win in each of their past two clashes, outclassing the Chargers by a wide double-digit margins in each of those contests, capped by a lopsided 39-10 win in Los Angeles as 1-point chalk two years ago. Minnesota has also been a reliable bet when facing the Chargers, covering the spread in four straight tilts. Big wins have been commonplace when these teams clash. Just one of their past five matchups have been settled by a single-digit margin.
Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota has come up short in three of four away dates this season. However, the Vikings have averaged 31.3 points per game on the road, with their three road defeats coming by a combined margin of just seven points. That has powered a 4-0 run for the OVER when the Vikings play away from US Bank Stadium.
Much of Minnesota’s success will depend on whether Kirk Cousins can overcome a stingy Chargers pass defence. The Vikings pivot has averaged just 185.5 passing yards while tossing for three scores over the past two weeks, and must now face an LA defence that has limited opposing passers to just 168.3 yards and three scores over their past three outings.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers twice needed to overcome deficits, and eked out the win on a last-second field goal in last weekend’s victory in Philadelphia. While the victory was welcome, it extended a trend that has seen LA blow early leads in three of their past four outings. The Chargers rush defence has particularly struggled, allowing an average of over 183 ground yards per game and nine total scoring runs over their past four contests.
Fortunately, the team has been able to continue relying on the exploits of passer Justin Herbert. The sixth overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft is coming off a sensational performance in last week’s win in Philadelphia, where he tossed for 356 yards and two touchdowns while adding his second scoring run of the season. Herbert has also connected on nine scoring passes over his past three home appearances, but faces a Vikings pass defence that ranks second in the NFL this season with 27 total sacks.
