There’s really no rhyme or reason to betting the preseason because coaches handle their players differently. The one preseason game that comes closest to replicating the regular season is the third week.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

One thing bettors should pay attention to is the preseason against the spread records for each head coach.

Green Bay is 27-21 in exhibition games under Mike McCarthy and 24-22-2 ATS. A total of 26 of the 48 games have gone over the betting total. Alas, we don’t know how seriously that the Titans’ Mike Vrabel will take this game because it’s his head-coaching debut. The long-time NFL linebacker and three-time Super Bowl champion spent last year as the defensive coordinator of the Houston Texans. Tennessee dumped former coach Mike Mularkey even though the Titans made the playoffs last season for the for the first time since 2008 and pulled a huge first-round upset in Kansas City before losing in New England. Vrabel played for the Patriots for eight years and finished his playing days in 2010 with Kansas City.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans already have suffered a loss in their secondary as safety Johnathan Cyprien will miss the season after tearing an ACL last week in camp. He started the final 10 regular-season games last year after missing the first six with a hamstring problem. Two other starters were placed on the active/PUP list to start camp: receiver Rishard Matthews and offensive lineman Jack Conklin; Conklin tore his ACL in that playoff loss to the Patriots.

We should see starting QB Marcus Mariota for at least a series considering he has to learn the offence installed by new coordinator Matt LaFleur. LaFleur joined Tennessee from the Rams, who scored a league-high 29.9 points per game last season

Green Bay Packers

Don’t expect to see Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers much if at all on Thursday as there’s nothing more for him to learn. He’s also working on an extension with the team that should make Rodgers the highest-paid player in NFL history for now.

The Packers are a bit thin on the offensive line as tackle Bryan Bulaga is working his way back from a torn ACL suffered last November and fellow tackle David Bakhtiari was carted off with an ankle injury at Saturday’s scrimmage. Bakhtiari has a sprain but should be OK for Week 1 of the regular season. On defence, Green Bay already has lost starting linebacker Jake Ryan to a season-ending torn ACL. Green Bay played at Tennessee in the 2016 regular season and lost 47-25.
