Titans vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 4 Odds, Prediction

It’s been a tough season for New York’s rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson, and it won’t get any easier when the Jets host the Tennessee Titans Sunday afternoon.  The Jets were embarrassed again last week, getting shutout 26-0 against Denver.  Tennessee heads to New York with a 2-1 record after downing the Colts 25-16 in Week 3.

The Titans are heavy 8-point road favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 46.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These teams haven’t met in the regular season since Tennessee’s 26-22 Week 13 win in 2018.  Sports Interaction bettors are almost universally taking the Titans on Sunday, as 97 per cent of the action is siding with Tennessee.  The Under is favoured by about 75 per cent of bettors.

If there’s one thing going for the Jets, it’s that Tennessee has lost six of their last eight games in New York.  The Titans have covered in two of three games this year, but they’re 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 against the Jets.  The total has gone Over in 13 of Tennessee’s last 19 games overall and seven of their last eight on the road.

It’s been years since the Jets were competitive, so it’s not surprising to see they’ve lost 17 of their last 19 games overall, including all three this year.  New York has also dropped eight of their last nine contests at home.  They’ve failed to cover in all three of their games this year and they’re 1-5 ATS in their last six October matches.  The Jets haven’t come close to hitting the Over in 2021, with the total going Under in six of their last seven games overall, dating back to last year.

Tennessee Titans

Last year’s AFC South champs once again lead the division after a crucial divisional win against the Colts last week.  Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was 18-for-27, finishing with 197 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.  Those turnovers, however, have been an issue for the Titans this year.  Tennessee turned the ball over three times last week and they sit minus-6 in turnover ratio, the second-worst mark in the NFL.  The Titans continue to lean heavily on reigning Offensive Player of the Year, Derrick Henry, to lead the offence.  Henry ran for 113 yards on 28 carries, breaking the 100-yard rushing mark for the sixth straight divisional game.  He also added 31 receiving yards on three catches.

The defence also came up big against the Colts, holding Indy to filed goals on two of their three trips within Tennessee’s 10-yard line.  They also held Indy to three-for-12 on third-down.  Rookie outside linebacker Rashad Weaver is expected to miss several weeks with a foot injury after being carted into the locker room in the third quarter last week.  Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown could also miss time with a hamstring injury after he also left the game early.

New York Jets

It’s not like there was a lot of positive buzz surrounding the Jets’ offence leading into the year, but few people could predict just how bad it’s been.  They’ve had two total touchdown, are averaging 6.7 points per game and they rank 29th in rushing, 30th in passing and are third-worst in turnovers.  The offensive line hasn’t been able to buy much time for Wilson, who finished with 160 passing yards, two interceptions and was sacked five times against Denver.  The rookie has struggled heavily this season, throwing just two touchdowns, getting picked off seven times and getting sacked 15 times in three games.

Not helping matters at all, is New York’s injury struggles.  Rookie receiver Elijah Moore suffered a concussion against Denver and likely won’t play this week.  Moore has been the Jets’ third-most productive receiver through three weeks, behind only Braxton Berrios and Corey Davis.  Receiver Jamison Crowder is also questionable with a groin strain and tight end Tyler Croft is day-to-day with a sore chest.
