It’s the third Thursday night game of the young NFL season and third that features divisional foes as the Tennessee Titans visit the Jacksonville Jaguars to kick off Week 3. The Titans are 1.5-point favourites at Sports Interaction.

Thursday Night Football NFL Point Spread and Betting

It seems like these teams play on Thursday night every year, and it’s usually a dreadfully boring game (often is whenever they play). They did again in Week 14 last year and the Jaguars, who already were long out of playoff contention, barely put up a fight in a 30-9 loss in Nashville. Former Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry had one of the greatest rushing and fantasy games in NFL history in carrying 17 times for 238 yards and four touchdowns, including an NFL record-tying 99-yarder. The only other 99-yard scoring run in league history was by Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett for Dallas on Jan. 3, 1983, against Minnesota. The Jaguars’ QB that night was the forgettable Cody Kessler, who is long gone.

The teams played Week 3 in Jacksonville last year as well and it was a 9-6 Titans snoozer. Ryan Succop’s third field goal of the game won it with 4:06 left. The Titans, who started Blaine Gabbert at quarterback (he was relieved by Marcus Mariota), had 233 yards, and the Jaguars, who started even more forgettable Blake Bortles, had 232. Top Jags running back Leonard Fournette was out injured. It was arguably the least interesting game of the 2018 season.

The home team has covered six of the past nine meetings and the total has gone over in five of the previous seven.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans are exhibit No. 1 why you should never overreact to what happens in Week 1. They looked absolutely fabulous in trashing the Browns in Cleveland but then were upset Week 2 in their home opener 19-17 by the Colts. Mariota was held to only 154 yards passing in that one but was under siege most of the game. Henry rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown. The Titans were dinking-and-dunking all day, never even trying to stretch the Indy defence. The Titans defence, meanwhile, gave up a touchdown on the opening drive for the second week in a row.  Starting right guard Kevin Pamphile missed the game with a knee injury. Tennessee is 1-4 ATS in its past five against the AFC South.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville came oh so close to a huge upset Sunday in Houston as nearly a double-digit underdog. In his first NFL start, rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew – he has the best mustache in football by far – hit DJ Chark on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left to pull the Jaguars within 13-12. Coach Doug Marrone decided to go for the win, but Fournette was stopped short on the 2-point try. Interesting that Marrone went for it because he’s on a huge hot seat, now hotter with a 0-2 record. Marrone was seen arguing on the sideline during the game with star cornerback Jalen Ramsey too. At this point, it would be an upset if Marrone is with this team by December. The Jags were without five starters Sunday in quarterback Nick Foles (out several weeks), cornerback A.J. Bouye, receiver Marqise Lee, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and left tackle Cam Robinson. Jacksonville is 5-2 ATS in its past seven September games.
