While the Tennessee Titans were fortunate to have made the post-season, the Miami Dolphins got exactly what they deserved. Both teams will be looking to improve upon their 2017 showings as they kick off the regular season Sunday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium. The host Dolphins won just six games last year and will need to get creative to produce enough offence to end their playoff drought. That could prove difficult against a sneaky good Tennessee defence.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Miami finds itself a slight underdog on the NFL odds board in its home opener – but that scenario hasn’t been a problem for the Dolphins, who are 6-3-1 ATS in their past 10 as a home ‘dog while winning six of those games outright. Tennessee, however, has a much worse track record as a road favourite, having covered just five times with one push in its previous 19 instances. The Titans have scored more than 20 points just once in their previous six games as a road fave.

The total opened at an optimistic 46.5, but has since dipped to 45. Last season was a weird one from a totals perspective for Miami, which opened with five straight unders, then reeled off seven overs in a row en route to an 8-8 O/U finish. The Titans finished 9-7 O/U but have been a consistent over play in recent September contests, having gone 7-3 O/U in their past 10 games in the month – including a 4-1 O/U mark in their past five September road games.

Tennessee Titans

Something about the AFC East brings out the worst in the Titans, who are a dismal 1-7 SU and 1-7 ATS in their past eight games against the division while scoring more than 14 points just once over that stretch. And September has certainly been a boom or bust kind of month for the Marcus Mariota-led offence, which has scored 30 or more points in four of its past 12 games in the month – and 17 or fewer points in the other eight.

Miami Dolphins

If the AFC East is the Titans’ kryptonite, then being an underdog is Miami’s biggest weakness – at least from a covers standpoint. The Dolphins are a dismal 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a ‘dog, while allowing 29 or more points in five of those games. The good news: Miami has rewarded bettors handsomely against the AFC South, covering six of their previous nine meetings against the division – including last year at home against the Titans.
