Titans head coach Mike Vrabel not only named Levis the starter ahead of a healthy Ryan Tannehill this week, but for the remainder of the season. Sunday will be Levis third NFL game as he looks to boost his record back above .500.
The words “rookie quarterback” likely leave a sour taste in the Bucs’ mouths, as just last weekend Tampa Bay got victimized by Houston rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud in a last-second 39-37 defeat. The loss bumped Tampa Bay down to 3-5 and was also their fourth-straight defeat. The Titans are also 3-5, so it’s essentially do-or-die time for both clubs.
Kickoff at Raymond James Stadium gets started at 1 p.m. EST with oddsmakers posting this tilt as a pick’em, and the over-under at 38.5 on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Its road game number five for the Titans and they’re still seeking their first road victory of 2023–24. Thing is, home field has been anything but an advantage for Tampa Bay this season as they hold a 1-3 record at Raymond James Stadium so far in 2023–24.
All four Titans road games have finished under the total too, as have four of Tampa Bay’s last five home games. The Bucs have dropped seven straight games versus an AFC opponent. Tennessee’s also come out victorious in eight of their last nine meetings with Tampa Bay.
Tennessee Titans
Will Levis has earned the right to lead this Titans offence after passing for exactly 500 passing yards and throwing four touchdown passes and a single interception these past two weeks. Levis and the Titans wound up just short last week at Pittsburgh but still had 340 yards of offence. A three-for-13 third down conversion rate is ultimately what hurt their chances.
And what better help for Levis than the beast that is Derrick Henry. The 29-year-old running back is heating up, rushing for at least 75 yards in three straight outings and accumulating at least 100 scrimmage yards in all three of those games. Expect a high volume of ‘Tractorcito’ this weekend to aid the new Titans starting pivot.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In many ways last week’s 39-37 defeat felt like a complete gut-punch to Tampa Bay’s playoff hopes. Tampa’s defence allowed 496 total yards and a 75-yard drive with under a minute to go that gave up the lead/game. The news of both starting cornerbacks Carlton Davis (toe) and Jamel Dean (concussion) both missing Wednesday’s practice certainty doesn’t help either.
On the positive side, Baker Mayfield continued his adequate quarterback play last week with 265 yards, two touchdowns, and zero turnovers. Mayfield’s play was a big reason to why Tampa Bay jumped out to a 3-1 start, but prior to last week the Bucs failed to reach 20 points in three straight losses. But if Mayfield feeds his top-catchers — as of late WR1 Mike Evans and tight end Cade Otton, odds are the Bucs can turn their season around before it’s too late.
