Texans vs. Dolphins Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction
Sunday’s matchup between the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins had the potential to be really awkward – but instead, it’s business as usual between two of the NFL’s worst teams. The Dolphins and Texans had reportedly discussed a blockbuster trade involving quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Deshaun Watson, but nothing materialized before this week’s deadline – and all that’s left is jockeying for draft position, with both teams well out of the playoff picture.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This was always going to be how the Texans performed in 2021; experts across the industry pegged them to finish near the bottom of the standings, though they’ve at least held their own against the spread (4-4). The Dolphins, on the other hand, had much higher hopes – and owning an identical 1-7 record (2-5-1 ATS) as the Texans certainly wasn’t part of the plan. That said, Miami is 2-0-1 ATS in its past three games as a home favourite of 6+ points.
Nearly three-quarters of Sports Interaction bettors like the Dolphins’ number here, while 66 percent of respondents are taking the U46 at -110. Both teams are 4-4 O/U for the season, though they diverge in Sunday’s scenario, with the Dolphins 2-1 O/U at home and the Texans 1-3 on the road. Houston is, however, a solid 5-2 to the Over in its past five games vs. AFC East opponents, while Miami is 1-5 O/U in its last six against teams from the AFC South.

Texans fans were largely peeved that the team didn’t pull the trigger on a deal to ship Watson out of Houston – but general manager Nick Caserio didn’t make it easy for opposing teams. Caserio was reportedly looking for a package of six players and draft picks in any trade for Watson. The former franchise QB been benched for the entire regular season as he and his lawyers grapple with the nearly two dozen civil lawsuits filed against him.
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins can only wonder what could have been – though as Miami GM Chris Grier told reporters, the team wasn’t really close to finalizing a deal for Watson. Miami will move forward with second-year QB Tua Tagovailoa, who looked good in back-to-back narrow losses to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons but put up a clunker (21-for-39, 205 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT) in last week’s 26-11 drubbing at the hands of the rival Buffalo Bills.
