Maybe the best news of the week was who returned to practice for the Colts. 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year Darius Leonard is expected to start versus the Texans.
It could be an old fashioned shootout for first place in the AFC’s South division his Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis. Both Jacoby Brissett and Deshaun Watson both have plenty of star power on offence that promises to be a showcase.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This will be the first head to head matchup of the season between them, but these two division rivals know a lot about each other. The Colts swept the two-game series last season, and have won four of the last six games against them.
The Colts are also 4-0 against the spread in their last four games against the AFC South, and 9-1 ATS versus teams with a winning record.
Of note, the road team in this series is 8-1-2 ATS, and the under is an impressive 9-1 in the last 10 meetings in Indianapolis.
Houston Texans
Don’t look now but the Houston Texans are rolling. The team is coming off two impressive wins over the Falcons, and even more so this past weekend against the Chiefs. In the two games the offence has exploded for 84 points.
Last weekend, the defence is getting plenty of praise after holding one of the highest scoring offences (Chiefs) to minus three yards in the fourth quarter of their 31-24 win.
The Chiefs ran off to a 17-3 first quarter lead, and appeared to be on their way to their fifth win of the season. The Texans had other ideas limiting the NFL’s leading passer and reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes to just 105 yards and one touchdown over the last three quarters.
Carlos Hyde appears to have found the fountain of youth in the Texans backfield as he had his best game of the season carrying the ball 26 times for 116 yards and a touchdown.
With a win on Sunday against the Colts, they could take control of a division they’ve won three times in Bill O’Brien’s first five seasons.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts enjoyed a bye week last weekend and took the time to heel up coming into this showdown with the Texans.
Maybe the best news of the week was who was at practice on Monday. Linebacker Darius Leonard and safety Clayton Geathers, both of which have been dealing with concussions, were in full gear and full practice. These are major additions considering the team got some tough news following the upset win against the Chiefs. Second-year pass rusher Kemoko Turay will be out for the remainder of the season. The Colts defence that is ranked 16th for an average of 355.2 yards against per game.
Marlon Mack and TY Hilton both have been banged up leading into the bye, and used it well to ready themselves for this matchup. Mack is ranked seventh overall in rushing yards this season with 470.
