Super Bowl XLIV News: Reggie Wayne Knee Inury

Reggie Wayne

Some shocking and alarming news came from Friday’s Super Bowl XLIV practice as Indianapolis Colts star WR Reggie Wayne pulled up short on a pass route, left practice and was later confirmed as having aggravated a previous knee injury.

Uh-oh.

Coach Jim Caldwell suggested that Wayne had “soft tissue” below his kneecaps and that pulling him out of practice was a precautionary measure more than anything else. Still, it has to be a worrisome development for the Colts, who are already likely without the services of DB Jerraud Powers and uncertain whether or not All-Pro DE Dwight Freeney will be available.

The injury news didn’t make any immediate impact on the sports betting line for this contest. The point spread is holding steady at five points (Indy -5.0) and the Over/Under remains at 57.5 points.

To whom this injury news becomes critical to, though, is anyone that took part in NFL betting options involving Wayne for Super Bowl XLIV. Over at the Sports Interaction online sportsbook, Wayne is in line for a multitude of wagers, including:

Player to win MVP — Reggie Wayne, 11.00 First Touchdown Scorer — Reggie Wayne, 7.00 Last Touchdown Scorer — Reggie Wayne, 7.00 To Score a Touchdown Anytime — Reggie Wayne, 1.53 To Score a Touchdown in the 1st Quarter — Reggie Wayne, 3.50 Total Receiving Yards, Reggie Wayne — 75.5 yards, Over 1.80, Under 1.86

There’s no denying the importance of Reggie Wayne to the Colts offense.  He’s a six=time 1,000-yard receiver that has hauled in at least six touchdowns per year over the last four seasons. This season, Wayne recorded just his second 100-catch campaign (he had 104 back in 2007, the same year Indy won the Super Bowl) and broke a personal record for first-down receptions in a year, with 73.

Do you think the Wayne injury is serious, or just a slight tweak en route to Super Bowl XLIV glory? Can the Colts handle all the injury news they’ve had to deal with this week? If you think it’s either a good or bad omen for Indy, translate that hunch into some major winnings with the Sports Interaction online sportsbook — the best sportsbook going for NFL betting and Super Bowl XLIV prop bets!
