During the regular season, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy averaged nine rushing yards per game and rushed for 144 yards on 39 carries. His rushing statistics indicated that the team did not prioritize his running abilities to move the ball down the field. However, there has been a shift in the team’s postseason game plan, which I believe will continue into the Super Bowl.

In the two postseason wins, Purdy has carried the ball 11 times for 62 yards. Particularly impressive was his 48-yard gain from just five carries against the Lions, including a season-long 21-yard run. The Chiefs’ defence has allowed an average of 24.65 rushing yards against opposing quarterbacks this season, indicating that Purdy is likely to rely on his running ability in the upcoming game.

Notably, Purdy has achieved rushing gains of 12 yards or more in three out of the four playoff games that he has both started and completed.
