Super Bowl 58 National Anthem Odds, Prediction: How long will Reba McEntire’s performance last?

It’s the biggest week of the NFL season as the league gears up for Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11. Football fans can get in on the actin before the game even begins with Reba McEntire’s rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. The Over/Under is set at 90.5 seconds (one minutes and 30.5 seconds).

Super Bowl Anthem History

The Star-Spangled Banner has been performed at all but one Super Bowl since 1967 (“America the Beautiful” was sung in 1977). At 90 seconds (1:30), Billy Joel’s 2007 anthem performance is the shortest recorded national anthem time since oddsmakers began setting the Over/Under for this prop in 2007. Alicia Keys has the longest clocked time, by far, at 155 seconds (2:35) in 2013.

Last year’s singer, Chris Stapleton, finished at 121 seconds (2:02) to fall Under the total of 125 seconds. That broke a trend of two straight years hitting the Over and it was just the third Super Bowl anthem in the last 10 years to hit the two-minute mark. Since 2007, the total anthem time has gone Over nine times and Under seven times. Kelly Clarkson’s time of 1:34 in 2012 is the only recorded Push in that timespan.

Reba McEntire National Anthem

The NFL is sticking with what works as McEntire will be the fourth consecutive country star to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Luckily for bettors, McEntire has a long history of singing national anthems, so there’s information we can look at. Her most well known anthem performance was before Game 3 of the 1997 World Series, which lasted 87 seconds (1:27). That time is right around the average for McEntire, whose anthem time has been clocked as short as 79 seconds (1:19).

Super Bowl 58 National Anthem Prediction

McEntire’s 90.5 seconds is the lowest national anthem total in the last 17 Super Bowls. That makes sense as outside of McEntire’s history of shorter anthem performances, country singers in general have leaned more towards quicker anthem performances. Now, you might think the Under is the play, but with the Super Bowl representing the biggest in North American sports, I’m banking on McEntire’s anthem time being a little longer than usual, at least by her standards.
