Steelers vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 1 Odds, Prediction

We have a compelling NFL Week 1 matchup on our hands on Sunday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers will head to East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. This game is filled with storylines, most notably that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has found himself in a Steelers uniform after a disastrous couple of seasons with the Jets. Pittsburgh is once again looking to contend for a playoff berth in the always difficult AFC North, while the Jets are hoping to take a step forward with a new head coach and quarterback at the helm. Which team will come out on top in this Week 1 clash? It’s almost time to find out.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The NFL odds board has the Steelers are road favourites, sitting at -150 on the money line, while the Jets are +125 underdogs at home. The total (or over/under) is sitting at a very low 38.5, while the Steelers are listed at +100 to cover the three-point spread on the road.

Elsewhere, the Steelers are a half-point favourite in the first half with slight juice (-115), while the Jets are +118 on the money line to lead at the half.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are once again in pursuit of a nine or 10-win season, and they were able to achieve that goal a season ago before getting rolled in the AFC Wild Card round against their rivals in Baltimore. We saw Pittsburgh undergo a very busy offseason, including trading for D.K. Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey, and getting Aaron Rodgers to be the new starting quarterback following the exit of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. George Pickens is now in Dallas and Pittsburgh also grabbed tight end Jonnu Smith from Tennessee. It remains to be seen if those new additions will move the needle, but Mike Tomlin’s group should at least be well-coached this season.

New York Jets

After a couple of seasons with sky-high expectations, the often-mocked Jets are going back to the drawing board in 2025 and starting from scratch. New head coach Aaron Glenn had success as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, but we’re not sure if that is going to translate to a head coaching job in what is a very difficult media market. Justin Fields is the starting quarterback and the training camp reports have not exactly been promising when it comes to what the Jets’ passing game will look like this season. Defensively, New York should be very solid once again, but we could see that unit wearing down as the year goes on, especially if they are on the field for large portions of each game. It certainly feels like a transition year for New York.

Who Will Win Steelers vs. Jets?

These teams are pretty similar in terms of style and philosophy, down to the fact that they essentially traded quarterbacks in the offseason. Both teams will likely look to establish the run and grind this game down to a crawl, which actually favours New York a bit at home. After all, the Jets’ defence is supremely talented and should be familiar with how to stop this version of Rodgers, and a Steelers offence that has been uninspiring in recent seasons. On the other side, New York’s offensive line should lead the way and Justin Fields’ legs should help him evade Pittsburgh’s strong pass rush when the Steelers do generate pressure.

All things considered, I am rolling with New York to pull off the small upset at home in Week 1.
