Steelers vs. Dolphins Point Spread: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction
The Dolphins are 7-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 44 points.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
These teams have one major tie currently: Steelers senior defensive assistant and linebackers Brian Flores. He was 24-25 as the Dolphins head coach the past three years but was surprisingly fired after the 2021 campaign. Flores ended up suing the NFL and three teams – the Dolphins, Broncos and Giants — alleging discrimination regarding his interview process. He also alleged that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross attempted to incentivize him to “tank” shortly after he was hired in 2019, with Ross allegedly offering Flores $100,000 for every loss that season. The league found no proof of that.
It’s the first meeting between the teams since 2019 in Week 8 on a Monday night in Pittsburgh when the Steelers won 27-14. The quarterbacks that night were Mason Rudolph for the home side and Ryan Fitzpatrick for the Dolphins. Rudolph is now third string with Pittsburgh and Fitzpatrick is retired and working on Amazon Prime Video’s NFL coverage.
The underdog is 4-1 against the spread in the past five meetings.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Coach Mike Tomlin turned the team over to first-round rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett in the second half of Pittsburgh’s Week 4 game vs. the Jets, but Tomlin may have to go back to Mitchell Trubisky for this one as Pickett left Sunday’s 20-18 upset win over the Bucs with a concussion. Trubisky did look tremendous in relief of Pickett. The Steelers closed as 10-point underdogs, making that not only the team’s biggest upset since beating the Indianapolis Colts in the 2005 divisional round, but also the largest upset in the NFL this season. Pittsburgh played without a big chunk of its secondary due to injury, including Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, as well as top tight end Pat Freiermuth – he’s not likely back this week. The Steelers are 2-6 ATS in their past eight road games.
Miami Dolphins
Due to injuries to starter Tua Tagovailoa and backup Teddy Bridgewater, the Dolphins had to start seventh-round rookie Skylar Thompson on Sunday vs. Minnesota. Alas, Thompson eventually left injured and was replaced by Bridgewater in the team’s 24-16 defeat, Miami’s third straight loss. Tua is expected to return this week. At the time of his injury, Tagovailoa led the NFL in QBR and ranked second in passing yards and third in passing touchdowns. He has maybe the league’s most electric wide receiver duo in Tyreek Hill (leads league in yards) and Jaylen Waddle. Miami did lose cornerback Nik Needham to a season-ending injury against Minnesota. The Dolphins are 7-2 ATS in their past nine at home.
