Steelers vs. Colts Point Spread: NFL Week 4 Odds, Prediction

Justin Fields was originally filing in for an injured Russell Wilson, but Fields now appears to be the early lean as the Steelers’ starting QB in Week 4 with Wilson still limited with a calf injury. Fields has navigated Pittsburgh to a 3-0 start, backed behind a league-leading defence that’s given up 26 points all season.

Anthony Richardson and the Colts got into the win column last week, defeating Chicago 21-16. Indianapolis scored all of their points on the ground in the win as Richardson continued to struggle to move the ball consistently through the air. The good news for Indianapolis is running back Jonathan Taylor is off to an incredible start to 2024 and is the heartbeat of this offence.

Kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium is set for 1 p.m. EST with the Steelers a slight -125 moneyline favourite on the road, and the over-under at 40 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

So far, the Pittsburgh Steelers have the best defence in the NFL. And so you guessed it, the under in Steelers games this season is a perfect 3-0. None of Pittsburgh’s three opponents in 2024 have even gone over 10 points. Indianapolis has shown to be a subpar, run-heavy offence which sets up well for another lower-scoring affair.

Head-to-head, Pittsburgh has held a big advantage over Indianapolis. The Steelers have won eight of their last nine matchups with the Colts including five of the last six played in Indianapolis. It was an eight-game win streak for Pittsburgh over Indianapolis but a 30-13 Colts victory in December last season snapped the streak. Sunday will also mark the third season in a row where Pittsburgh visits Indianapolis, a strange scheduling quirk between two non-divisional opponents. The Steelers are 15-5 outright in their last 20 contests against an AFC South club.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Head coach Mike Tomlin’s yet to announce a quarterback change to his 3-0 club, which says almost all you need to know about who’s going under centre in Week 4. Justin Fields, the QB who’s led Pittsburgh to a 3-0 start, hasn’t been a world-beater in his three victories In his three starts, Fields has 608 total yards to go with three touchdowns and one turnover. He’s also coming off his best performance yet, completing 25 of 32 passes for 245 yards in last weekend’s win versus the Chargers.

Life would be easy in Pittsburgh for any quarterback though with how the Steelers defence is playing. Pittsburgh’s 8.7 points and 229.7 yards against per game are both atop the NFL. The unit is likely down edge rusher Alex Highsmith this week though after a groin injury in Week 3.

Indianapolis Colts

A balance of 33 rushes and 20 passes last weekend indicates where this Colts offence is headed. It was the winning formula after all, but things can change for the worse if Anthony Richardson’s turnover issues don’t come to a halt. Richardson has six interceptions through three games and is completing under 50 per cent of his passes to boot. Indianapolis is also third in the NFL with 5.4 yards per carry, meaning a healthy dosage of Jonathan Taylor is in the team’s best interest when facing a vaunted Pittsburgh defence.

Indianapolis is gaining some steam on defence too by registering three takeaways and four sacks last week. The defence had entered Week 3 with nearly 500 rushing yards against in two games, but it was night and day last weekend when they held Chicago to 2.3 yards per carry.
