Steelers vs. Chargers SNF Point Spread: NFL Week 10 Odds, Prediction
The Chargers are -3.5 on the NFL odds with a total of 44.5 points.
Sunday Night Football Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This might be the most old-school head coaching matchup in the NFL this season between Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin and Los Angeles’ Jim Harbaugh, both also former players. These guys would prefer to win by running the ball and with a strong defence if possible; but both are good enough to adapt to what the game dictates.
Both clubs were Wild-Card teams last season, with sixth-seeded Pittsburgh losing in Baltimore and the fifth-seeded Chargers falling in Houston. Both might get at least one home game this post-season, however, assuming they make it. Los Angeles (6-3) is a game behind first-place Denver in the AFC West but would be an AFC Wild-Card team currently.
Pittsburgh (5-3) leads the AFC North by two games over Baltimore, but the now-healthy Ravens are -140 to win that and the Steelers +130 because those rivals still have two meetings remaining.
The Steelers are 25-11 all-time vs. the Chargers, including three playoff matchups. They met in Week 3 last year in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers won 20-10 when Justin Fields was the team’s QB, but he’s now with the Jets. Justin Herbert was held to only 125 yards passing for L.A. Pittsburgh is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh rarely loses back-to-back games at home and was +3 on Sunday against AFC-best Indianapolis, but what had been a struggling defence had five sacks and forced six turnovers (most forced by the team since 2010) in a 27-20 upset – such a huge victory to maintain that two-game lead over surging Baltimore in the AFC North. The Steelers are the only team above .500 in the division. Prior to Sunday, the Steelers hadn’t forced a turnover in more than a month, and they had just two sacks in the previous two games. Pittsburgh turned three of Indianapolis’ giveaways into touchdowns while reeling off 24 straight points.
Aaron Rodgers threw for 203 yards and a TD, and Jaylen Warren rushed for two scores. Rodgers’ 17 pass TDs already are the most by any Steelers quarterback since 2022, and he completed passes to nine different players on Sunday. Starting guard Isaac Seumalo left with an injury. Starting cornerback Darius Slay dislocated a finger in the game, but was able to return. The Steelers are 1-4 ATS in their past five on the road.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers avoided a trap on Sunday at awful Tennessee and won their second game in a row, 27-20. Justin Herbert had a pick-six but also two TD passes and a rushing TD. It was his eighth career game with at least two passing TDs and a rush TD to tie John Hadl for the most such games in franchise history. What is concerning is that he was sacked a season-high six times and then lost both starting tackles to injury.
Left tackle Joe Alt reportedly suffered a high right ankle sprain, and those take several weeks. It’s the second high ankle sprain Alt has suffered this season. He exited the first quarter of the Week 4 loss to the Giants missed the next three games with the same injury. How important is the former first-round pick? The Chargers are 4-0 this season when Alt plays the entire game and 2-3 when he doesn’t. Injuries have hit that unit all season. L.A. has started 6-3 or better in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1979-82. Los Angeles is 1-5 ATS in its past six games.
