It’s an NFC West showdown with potentially big playoff implications on Sunday night in Week 14 as the Seattle Rams visit the Los Angeles Rams, who pretty much have to win to keep their post-season chances alive.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Bit surprising that the NFL didn’t flex out Seahawks-Rams for the 1 p.m. ET start between the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints as the winner of that game between 10-2 teams could be in the driver’s seat for the top seed throughout the NFC playoffs. Seattle could factor into that as well and would benefit from a Saints win earlier Sunday.

This wraps up the season series between these teams and their games of late tend to go right down to the wire. Both did last year when the Rams swept by a combined seven points. In Week 5 this year on a Thursday night, the Seahawks beat the visiting Rams 30-29. Russell Wilson threw four touchdown passes, the last a 5-yarder to tailback Chris Carson on fourth-and-goal with just over two minutes left for the win. Carson also rushed for 118 yards.

The Rams have one of the NFL’s best kickers in Greg Zuerlein, but he missed a 44-yarder in the final seconds wide right. He had made three field goals earlier in the game. Jared Goff threw for 395 yards and a touchdown to lead Los Angeles, Cooper Kupp caught nine passes for 117 yards and a score, and Todd Gurley rushed for two touchdowns.

The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the past five meetings. The over is 4-0 in the previous four.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks rarely lose prime-time games under Pete Carroll (29-5-1) and almost never at home, and that trend continued Monday with a 37-30 comeback win over Minnesota. It was Seattle’s sixth straight victory and moved it into a tie with San Francisco for the NFC West lead (Seahawks currently hold tiebreaker) and also with New Orleans for the best record in the conference. The Hawks scored 27 second-half points on that very good Minnesota defence. Rashaad Penny continue his recent surge by rushing for a touchdown and catching a TD pass. Seattle is old school in that it wants to pound the ball on the ground, and it gashed the Vikings for 218 yards and two scores rushing. The Seahawks are 6-1 ATS in their past seven road games.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams have underachieved at 7-5 and were embarrassed at home on Monday night in Week 12 against Baltimore but showed what this talented roster can be capable of with a 34-7 rout on a short week at Arizona on Sunday – the Cardinals were healthy and rested coming off their bye yet were dominated. Goff had his second 400-yard passing game of the year with 424 and two touchdowns. He had thrown no touchdown passes and five interceptions over his previous three games. Robert Woods caught 13 passes for 172 yards. Then again, Arizona’s pass defence is the NFL’s worst. L.A.’s defence had six sacks and rookie safety Taylor Rapp returned an interception for a touchdown. The Cardinals had only 198 yards. The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their past five vs. the NFC West.
