NFC West partners aside, the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams are quite opposite, yet getting the same backwards results.

The 6-2 Seahawks are coached by the defensively-minded Pete Carroll, but field one of the NFL’s worst defences and make up for it with an MVP-worthy quarterback. The 5-3 Rams employ one of the league’s brightest offensive minds in Sean McVay, but rank 22nd in points for and have a top-two defence keeping them afloat. So, what gives this week in Los Angeles?

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Recently, McVay has had the upper-hand over Carroll. As the Rams’ head coach, McVay’s 4-2 against Seattle with his club scoring 29.6 points per game. Los Angeles has won seven of their last 10 against the Seahawks too, with the over hitting in four of their last five meetings.

The total for this matchup is still 55.5, one of the highest in Week 10. But the way Seattle’s played in 2020, this could be way too low. The Seahawks are scoring a league-high 34.2 points a game this season, but giving 30.4 right back. Not to mention allowing 44 in Buffalo last week.

Coming off a bye, oddsmakers have the Rams a one-point favourite.

Seattle Seahawks

It’s well known that Seattle’s defence is bad overall, but bad isn’t strong enough to describe their pass defence. Seattle’s on pace to surrender 5,794 passing yards this season (362 per game) which would break the 2011 Packers’ record for most ever in a season by 998 yards.

Luckily for Seattle, they’re still four games above .500 and employ Russell Wilson. Their ninth-year quarterback is having a fantastic season, with 28 touchdowns, 317.6 yards per game, and a 117.1 quarterback rating. D.K. Metcalf’s benefited from Wilson’s success the most, sitting second in the NFL with both 788 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

Seattle also might be getting back running back Chris Carson, who has been out since Week 7.

Los Angeles Rams

Although they’ve beaten up on some inferior competition, there’s a lot to like about the 2020 Rams. First is their team defence, which ranks second in opponents yards per game (291.9) and passing yards per game (197.1). Both spell bad news for Wilson, who will have NFL sack leader Aaron Donald in his face all afternoon.

Where the Rams definitely have an advantage is preparation. Seattle played in Buffalo last Sunday and now travel across the country to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, McVay and the Rams have had an extra week to gameplan and rest up. They need the rest too, with running back Darrell Henderson and receiver Cooper Kupp both battling what appear to be minor injuries. If both can play, it’s hard to see Seattle stopping much.
