The Carolina Panthers have been perfect at home so far this season. Cam Newton and company will need that trend to continue in order to remain in the NFC’s top Wild Card position.
The Panthers will host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Carolina is coming off a disappointing 20-19 loss to the Detroit Lions in which head coach Ron Rivera decided to go for the two-point conversion and didn’t get it in the final minutes of a game when he could have tied it with an extra point.
The Panthers return home to face a tough Seattle side that is coming off a crucial 27-24 win over the Green Bay Packers to keep its season alive. Will the Seahawks continue to roll and hand Carolina its first home loss of the year? Or will the Panthers remain hot at home? Here is a closer look at the matchup.

Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are coming off a massive win over the Packers to remain in the NFC Wild Card hunt. Russell Wilson threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Carson ran for 83 yards and a score in the win over Green Bay. Seattle owns the league’s top-ranked rushing attack but they will need more from Wilson’s arm this week against a stout run defence.
The good news for the Seahawks is that their defence really stepped up last week with five sacks on Aaron Rodgers. Cam Newton is dealing with a lingering ankle injury suffered in last week’s loss so if Seattle can get to him early and often then it could go a long way to help decide the outcome of this contest.
Carolina Panthers
Rivera’s decision to go for the two-point conversion late in last week’s loss to Detroit has attracted plenty of criticism. While the numbers indicate it might have been worth it to go for it late, the reality is that Newton was dealing with an ankle injury that clearly limited him on the play and Carolina basically conceded the loss by not converting. Now the Panthers need to try to rebound at home and the key will be Newton’s ankle. If Newton can perform at a high level, Carolina should be in good position to extend its perfect record at home.
The Panthers will need a premier effort from running back Christian McCaffrey in order to pull out the victory. They will also need a strong performance from a defence that has been solid all year. Considering what we have seen from Carolina at home so far this season, there is a good chance Newton and company clinch another important victory over Seattle this weekend.
