Seahawks vs. Packers Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 3 Odds, Prediction
Green Bay is priced as a 3-point favourite on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Entering Week 18 of the 2023 regular season, all Green Bay needed to earn the NFC’s final wild card spot was a home win over Detroit in the Sunday night game. For Seattle to earn that spot, it had to beat the visiting LA Rams earlier in the day and hope for the Packers to be upset by the Lions. Both things did happen and Seattle got the spot, while Aaron Rodgers was traded from Green Bay. So one could argue that the Seahawks helped kickstart the Jordan Love era with the Packers.
Green Bay finishes the preseason at home for the first time since 2019. It’s the first exhibition matchup between the two clubs since 2013 at Lambeau Field. The most recent regular season meeting was Week 10 in 2021 with the Packers winning 17-0 at home. Neither Rodgers nor Russell Wilson (now in Denver) played particularly well. Green Bay has won five of the last six matchups.
Seattle Seahawks
Reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year Geno Smith is Seattle’s quarterback, so it’s not clear if Coach Pete Carroll will feel the need to play Smith in this one. He didn’t go in the preseason opener but did play two series this past Saturday in a 22-14 win over Dallas as the Seahawks improved to 2-0 (both at home). Backup Drew Lock and rookie Holton Ahlers have been the main guys under centre and that will continue Saturday. “He’s going to play a lot, yeah,” Carroll said of Lock in the finale. “I want to get as much football under his belt as we can, getting him ready.” Rookie first-round receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is out due to wrist surgery and uncertain for Week 1. Rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon, the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s draft, is dealing with a hamstring injury. If there’s one battle to watch it’s likely at center between Evan Brown and rookie Olu Oluwatimi. Seattle is 28-20 under Carroll all-time in the preseason.
Green Bay Packers
It will be the first time that Green Bay and Seattle will face off in a preseason finale. The Packers are 1-1 this year following a 21-17 home loss to New England last Saturday. That game was called in the fourth quarter due to a serious looking injury suffered by the Patriots’ Isaiah Bolden. Starting QB Jordan Love was 5-for-8 for 84 yards and a TD before leaving. He will play in this game and has looked very sharp. Love is 12-of-18 for 130 yards and two TDs for a passer rating of 124.8 this preseason. Penn State rookie Sean Clifford appears to have clearly won the backup job. Undrafted rookie receiver Malik Heath may have finalized his spot on the 53-man roster with five catches for 75 yards against the Patriots. Green Bay is 4-8 all-time in the preseason under Matt LaFleur.
