NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Just the one Monday night game this week after doubleheaders the past two weeks. Both Seattle and the NY Giants were Wild Card teams last season but likely will not be playing extra football this January. It’s already the third primetime game this season for the Giants (lost the first two by a combined score of 70-12) and they have a couple more scheduled. That might change (flexed out) given their putrid offence. Minor break for Seattle in that this game wasn’t scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. Pacific time as those are always very tough on West Coast teams.

New York leads the all-time series 10-9 and broke a four-game losing streak in it with a 17-12 victory in the last meeting in Seattle on Dec. 6, 2020. That game was frankly only memorable because the score was 5-0 at halftime. Colt McCoy (because Daniel Jones was hurt) and Russell Wilson were the quarterbacks that day but both are long gone. The Seahawks are 3-0 vs. the Giants at MetLife Stadium (wins in 2011, 2013 and 2017).

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle played without a handful of injured starters Sunday but beat Carolina 37-27 behind two rushing TDs from Kenneth Walker III as the running game broke out with 146 yards and two scores after struggling the first two weeks. Geno Smith had 296 yards passing and a TD. DK Metcalf played through some sore ribs and had eight catches for 112 yards.

Seattle was without starting tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas and guard Phil Haynes. Lucas at a minimum will be out this week. No. 1 cornerback Riq Woolen was out with a chest injury and former Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams hasn’t played yet this season, but both are likely for Week 4. Adams has been out since tearing his quadriceps tendon in last year’s season-opening win over the Broncos.

New York Giants

The Giants played without Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley, two starting linemen and a key pass-rusher on Thursday in Week 3 in San Francisco. The Niners were expected to roll and they did, 30-12. New York didn’t even try to run the ball without Barkley, totaling 29 yards on 11 carries. It’s too early to know his status for Monday but a decent chance he returns.

QB Daniel Jones took a big step forward last year and got paid for it this offseason, but he has regressed in a big way this year and threw for just 137 yards with a pick against the 49ers. Jones has at least one turnover in all three games after really improving in that area a year ago. New York is third-from-last in the NFL in allowing 32.7 ppg and hasn’t had a takeaway yet. It’s the first time in the Super Bowl era the Giants have allowed at least 28 points without a single takeaway in three consecutive games.
