Seahawks vs. Cowboys Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 3 Odds, Prediction

One of the NFL’s remaining quarterback battles should be decided by what happens Friday night when the Seattle Seahawks visit the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3 of the preseason. Seattle is a 3-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 40.5 points.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Seahawks and Cowboys don’t play in the 2022 regular season. They last met Week 3 of the 2020 regular season at AT&T Stadium and Seattle won 38-31 behind 315 yards passing and five touchdowns from Russell Wilson, whom of course was traded this past offseason to Denver. Tyler Lockett had three TD catches. Dallas’ Dak Prescott threw for 472 yards with three touchdowns and two picks in a losing effort.

These teams enter the season with very different outlooks. The Seahawks could be one of the worst teams in the NFC after losing Wilson and with a terrible quarterback room led by Drew Lock and Geno Smith (see below).

Per usual, the Cowboys expect to contend for a Super Bowl, and coach Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat. It’s no secret that owner Jerry Jones loves former Saints head coach and former Cowboys assistant Sean Payton and Payton is now available doing TV work – although any team would have to send New Orleans compensation.

Seattle Seahawks

There appears to be two quarterback battles remaining in the league: Pittsburgh and Seattle. Both Smith, who was Wilson’s backup last season and started three games, and Lock, part of the package back from Denver for Wilson, played well in the preseason opener for the Seahawks. It was to be Lock’s turn to start in Week 2, but he tested positive for COVID, and Smith was just O.K.

Coach Pete Carroll said Lock will play a lot in this one and the job is still up for grabs. For most of the offseason, Smith has been getting the vast majority of the reps with the first-team offence, and it would be a minor surprise if he’s not the guy. Second-round rookie running back Kenneth Walker III (Michigan State) recently underwent surgery to repair a hernia injury, so he’s out and might not be ready for the season opener. Carroll is 26-19 as a preseason coach with Seattle.

Dallas Cowboys

Prescott, top running back Ezekiel Elliott, No. 1 receiver CeeDee Lamb and several other high-profile players have not played this preseason, and it’s frankly not clear if any will here – Elliott has basically said he’d rather not, but with two weeks ahead of the season opener, the coaching staff might put them out there for a series. This is a veteran team so not a lot of starting positions are up for grabs.

The backup QB job is open between incumbent Cooper Rush and former Panthers backup Will Grier. Rookie defensive end Sam Williams was a second-round pick out of Ole Miss and has been opening some eyes. He has led all Cowboys defensive linemen in snaps in each of the first two preseason games.
