Seahawks vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Week 16 Odds, Prediction

Pete Carroll’s outfit isn’t the only squad that has something to play for. The Chiefs currently sit in the No. 2 spot in the AFC and would very much like to earn a first-round bye.

As an indicator of the different fortunes these teams have experienced recently, the experts place Andy Reid’s Chiefs as big 10-point favourites on the NFL odds. The over-under is 49.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Seahawks earned a win the last time the teams met on the gridiron in 2018. That contest was played in front of “The 12” in Seattle. Former Hawks QB Russell Wilson got the better of Patrick Mahomes. The latter was playing his first season as an NFL starter. It was a high-scoring affair, ending 38-31.

It wasn’t long ago that we heaped praise on Seattle season. Not only were they winning consistently, but they regularly covered the spread. But a 6-3 start has devolved into 7-7. Moreover, a 6-3 record ATS has completely blown up, as they currently sport a 6-8 tally. The closest they came to cover at any time over the past five weeks was a 27-23 victory over the hapless Rams, but they were favoured by -6.5

Don’t talk to Kansas City fans about covering spreads. All they care about is seeing their team reach and win another Super Bowl. At 11-3, they are certainly in a good position to cause damage in the playoffs. We bring this up because they are, incidentally, a rather poor 5-9 ATS. On a more positive note, they covered both games this year when the spreads were large (-9.6 against the Jaguars and -15.5 against the Rams).

Seattle Seahawks

It’s funny what can happen sometimes over the course of a regular-season campaign. The trends, the improvements, the calamitous finishes. We shouldn’t be all doom and gloom. The Seahawks are in the hunt for a playoff spot, but looking at their recent efforts, it feels like all the questions pundits had about them are proving true.

Week 15 saw them host the hated 49ers in a game that played out a lot like the Week 14 defeat to Carolina. An early deficit that couldn’t be overcome, appalling run defence, and Geno Smith mostly playing up to his pre-2022 standards. Result: a 21-13 loss. He isn’t a bad QB by any means, nor is he the man to get a team to the promised land. Seattle’s lone major score came with only 1:15 left when San Francisco was playing softer defence to run down the clock.

Kansas City Chiefs

One might be tempted to look at how the past two weeks have played out for the Chiefs and be tempted to raise an eyebrow, maybe show mild concern. Then again, this is Kansas City and for four seasons since Mahomes’ arrival they’ve figured things out quite nicely in the end.

Granted, a 34-28 win over lowly Denver and a 30-24 overtime slugfest versus a one-win Texans squad aren’t what one would expect from Andy Reid’s ensemble. What will help the Chiefs down the stretch is a newfound balanced attack. Both running backs Jerick McKinnon and Isiah Pacheco have earned their spurs this season. Elusive, speedy, and tough, they’ve helped keep drives alive often when the goings have gotten rough. Pacheco averages almost five yards per carry (4.9).
