The Seahawks are playing out the string on a hugely disappointing season, while the Cardinals are playing for a possible NFC West title as the rivals meet Sunday from the desert.
The Cards are 6.5-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 48 points.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Seattle has less than nothing to play for as losing won’t even help the team from a first-round draft pick perspective as the Seahawks owe that pick to the New York Jets from the Jamal Adams trade.
Arizona is at worst a wild-card team in the NFC but would win the NFC West and earn at least one home game with a victory and Los Angeles Rams home loss to the 49ers, which is certainly possible but not too likely. As things stand now, the Cardinals would visit the Dallas Cowboys next weekend.
In Week 11, Arizona beat Seattle 23-13 even though star quarterback Kyler Murray and Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins were both out. Colt McCoy played very well for Murray, throwing for 328 yards and two scores. Russell Wilson was just 14-for-26 for 207 yards and no TDs. Seattle was outgained 413-266 as the Cardinals held the ball for more than 40 minutes.
Arizona is 7-2-1 against the spread in the past 10 meetings.
Seattle Seahawks
There are going to be a lot of changes in the Pacific Northwest this off-season as the Seahawks will finish with their first losing record since drafting Russell Wilson in 2012. This writer believes that Wilson will be playing for another team via trade when the 2022 season kicks off. Denver, Washington, New Orleans, the NY Giants, Carolina and Pittsburgh all make a lot of sense. Seattle did blow out the Lions 51-29 on Sunday as Wilson had his best game since returning from a finger injury with four TD passes.
Rashaad Penny rushed for 170 yards and two scores – he has been a late-season revelation. The Seahawks entered with an NFL-worst 33.7 per cent conversion rate on third down but converted 7-for-12. All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner injured his knee and likely won’t play in Week 18. He’s second in the NFL with 170 tackles.
Arizona Cardinals
Arizona stopped a three-game slide with a 25-22 upset in Dallas on Sunday and as noted above, could be going right back to Big D next weekend. The Cardinals didn’t commit a turnover against the NFL’s No.1 ranked team in total takeaways this season. Texas native Kyler Murray threw for 263 yards and two scores. He’s 8-0 in his career at AT&T Stadium dating to his high school days playing in the area.
Pro Bowl running back James Conner (1,034 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns) has missed the past two games with a heel injury and Chase Edmonds (903 yards from scrimmage, two TDs) is a bit banged up himself, so coach Kliff Kingsbury hinted that neither may play this week. Since Week 8, Conner and Edmonds have played just one full game together due to injuries. Top receiver DeAndre Hopkins remains out with a knee injury and probably won’t get back until the NFC title game at the earliest if the Cardinals get there.
