We are almost to the point on the calendar where we might have to start worrying about wintry weather in Denver-hosted NFL games, but not Thursday night. Might be a bit messy, though: Shower or two around the area in the evening, then partly cloudy overnight. Low 37F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30%. NFL Betting Odds, Point Spread, Trends
Let’s go back to the NFL’s conference championship Sunday on Jan. 25. Seattle took care of business at home in the NFC Championship Game against the Rams. Denver hosted New England in the AFC title game but was without starting QB Bo Nix after he was injured in the Divisional Round win over Buffalo. Backup Jarrett Stidham wasn’t up to the task against the Patriots as the Broncos lost 10-7. Of course, the Seahawks then dominated the Patriots in Super Bowl 60.
To repeat as NFC champion, the Seahawks are currently +550 and to win the AFC, the Broncos are +1000. Not looking great for either get their conference’s top seed again, however. The clubs did meet in Super Bowl XLVIII with Seattle trouncing Denver 43-8. Including that matchup and one other playoff game in the 1980s when the Seahawks were in the AFC, the Broncos lead the all-time series 35-23. Seattle has taken the past two, most recently 26-20 at home in the 2024 season opener.
That was Mike Macdonald’s head coaching debut for Seattle and Geno Smith was the quarterback. It was the NFL regular-season debut for current Denver star QB Bo Nix, who threw two picks with no TDs against a terrific defence.
NFL Player Odds and Props
For Seattle, take superstar wideout Jaxson Smith-Njigba for an anytime touchdown. The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year already has seven of them. He might repeat for that honour. I think you are probably fine playing both QBs in the Seahawks’ Sam Darnold and Broncos’ Bo Nix to throw an INT as they face terrific defences.
Seattle Seahawks
It’s obviously early, but one reason the Seahawks got to and won the Super Bowl last season was because they had home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, and there are few tougher places to win than in Seattle. Getting that advantage again is already looking bleak after being upset 32-29 no Sunday at home by San Francisco, which now has a two-game lead in the NFC West over the 3-2
Seahawks. That entire game was a turnover-filled mess with Seattle giving it away four times. One of those was an unfathomable fumble in their own end zone right before halftime that was recovered by the Niners for a score. Seattle should have just taken a knee and trailed 14-13 at the break and not 21-13. Seahawks wideout Cooper Kupp was stopped inches short of a first down on 4th-and-10 to the ice game for San Francisco or we might have had overtime. In Seattle’s three wins this year, it has had just two turnovers and allowed three total opponent points off them. In the two losses, it has seven giveaways and surrendered 41 opponents points off them. Top running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) won’t be activated from the reserve/PUP list ahead of Thursday’s game. He has yet to debut in 2026.
Denver Broncos
Denver was at the winless Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday and was trailing 17-10 entering the fourth but dominated that quarter in a 23-17 victory for its first road win in three tries. The Broncos lead the NFL in comeback wins (15), second-half comebacks (12), and fourth-quarter comebacks (eight) in the last two seasons. They have become the first club since the 1981 Cincinnati Bengals to start 3-2 or better despite trailing in the second half in all five games. Denver is on an astonishing 13-game winning streak in one-score games including playoffs. There were only 200 combined passing yards Sunday, fewest in this matchup since 1987. That despite the Broncos playing without both starting cornerbacks in former Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain and Riley Moss. And safety Talanoa Hufanga left injured.
