Seahawks vs. 49ers Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction

These two rivals played quite recently on Thanksgiving evening in Seattle. It was never much of a contest, with the northern Californian side rolling to a 31-13 win. Since then San Francisco strutted into Philadelphia and took down the NFC-leading Eagles with the same ease, 42-19. The Seahawks were in action last Thursday night in Dallas where the Cowboys won a wild one, 41-35.

Large spreads can feel a bit insulting at times, but given how these teams are playing, the NFL odds have the 49ers pinned as -10.5 favourites.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

We have to go back two full seasons for the last time Pete Carroll’s ensemble usurped Kyle Shanahan’s. From the first regular game of 2022 to the one a fortnight ago, the 49ers have won four in a row (including a Wild Card match). Before that, it was the Seahawks who soared highest, winning four straight. The over is 5-3 during that span.

This is going to be a tall order for Seattle, just as it was in Week 12. The Seahawks are a middle-of-the-pack attack, gaining 325 yards a week and scoring 22.0 points. They struggle to run the ball, however, earning only 93.8 yards on average. San Francisco is not only a force to be reckoned with when they have the ball (29.3 points a week), but defensively they’re among the best in the business. Fifth in total yards conceded, second in rushing yards, and second in points (15.8), Even their pass defence isn’t weak per se (219.4 yards).

Not only have the Seahawks lost three in a row to dip to 6-6, but they’re only 5-6-1 ATS due to having covered only twice in their last eight opportunities. San Francisco is 7-5 ATS, largely because of the shock three-game losing streak they suffered in the middle of the season.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks fought tooth and nail versus the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night in Week 13. They tried about everything they could to win the game but still came up short, 41-35. The question now becomes does that loss deflate the club or does the effort renew its vigour?

The only blemish from a neutral’s perspective was the alarming number of penalties called and yards lost as a consequence. Dallas was flagged nine times for 127 yards and Seattle 10 times for 130. Fans of attacking football had everything they could have wanted, with brazen play-calling and brilliant skills on display. WR DK Metcalf was in one of those moods, catching six passes for 134 yards and two scores, including one with four seconds before halftime. Geno Smith had himself a solid game, going 334 yards and three TDs, but only 23-for-41. When the fourth quarter struck, the Cowboys’ defence tied its bootlaces and greatly limited the damage.

San Francisco 49ers

Week 13’s visit to the Philadelphia Eagles was easily billed as the game of the week. The same teams met in a controversial NFC Championship game last January, one marred by a game-ending injury to 49ers QB Brock Purdy in the first half that killed the contest.

Who knows if the Niners and Eagles will meet in January. The NFL playoffs spring surprises almost every season. But if they do, San Francisco just sent their East Coast rivals one heck of a message. It’s not that the Eagles haven’t lost many games over the past two seasons (they’re 26-6, including the postseason). It’s that San Francisco demolished them in every facet of the game in Philly in cool, rainy conditions, winning 42-19. No one was injured, there were no controversies, and they thumped them. San Fran was even down 6-0 after the first quarter! Purdy threw four TDs, Deebo Samuel caught for 118 and two scores and the defence limited Philly to just 46 rushing yards, arguably the most surprising stat from the whole game.
