Seahawks vs. 49ers Point Spread: NFL Week 17 Odds, Prediction

The 11-4 Seattle Seahawks have clinched the NFC West but have their eyes on the NFC’s top seed as they travel to Arizona where the San Francisco 49ers await. Albeit 6-9 and eliminated from the playoffs, George Kittle and the 49ers are putting wrenches in their fellow divisional teams’ plans after beating the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday.

Seattle’s booked their playoff ticket, but a loss to San Francisco would keep them in third place while a win may result in first and a bye. Would make for a sweet ending to a bad 49ers season.

NFL Week 17 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Offence prevailed in Week 8 when these teams first met, the Seahawks prevailing 37-27. Seattle’s D.K. Metcalf posted a season-high 12 receptions along with 161 yards and two scores in the win, one that was Seattle’s 12th in their last 14 against the 49ers.

From a betting perspective, the trends are even deeper: the Seahawks are 15-4 ATS in their last 19 versus San Francisco. Oddsmakers have made Seattle six-point favourites in Week 17, the over-under sitting at 46. The total is of note, as Seattle’s last seven games have all gone under. And if you want to side with the 49ers, Seattle is 0-5 ATS in their last five road games.

Seattle Seahawks

When Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams proclaimed Seattle’s defence as the best in the NFL he may have had some bias behind it, but over the past six weeks it’s hard to argue. During that stretch, Seattle has allowed 13.6 points per game and have held two opponents completely out of the end zone.

Problem is, the Seahawks have scored more than 20 points in just three of those six outings and in one of their last four. Seattle’s also gone without a 100-yard receiver in all but one of their past seven games, and are still without a 100-yard rusher this season. Their offence stands 13th in total yards, 24th the last three weeks.

San Francisco 49ers

A lot has changed since the 49ers’ double-digit loss in Seattle two months ago. For starters, it was the afternoon that Kittle and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered their injuries.

Kittle just came back last week, while C.J. Beathard is now under centre for the 49ers. Both starting running backs were out — DeeJay Dallas started for Seattle, JaMycal Hasty for San Francisco. Richard Sherman was also inactive then, and is healthy now.

So Kyle Shanahan certainly gets the most out of his team. Exhibit A was last week’s win at Arizona, with Jeff Wilson rushing for 183 yards and the Cardinals reaching 12 points on 4.4 yards per play.

The NFC will be represented by someone else in 2020–21, but look out for the 49ers next year.
