The Seattle Seahawks are coming off another tough loss to one of the teams they are competing with for an NFC playoff spot. They will need to put that defeat behind them in a hurry in order to avoid sliding any further out of a playoff spot this weekend. Seattle is set to visit the San Francisco 49ers in what is essentially a must-win game in Week 12.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Both teams have had a tough time covering spreads as of late. The 49ers covered in their latest contest against the New York Giants but that was their first time in four tries. As for the Seahawks, they have three losses and a push in their last four games. While the Seahawks have won five straight in this series, they haven’t covered with consistency. They are just 3-2 ATS in their last five versus San Francisco and 9-6 ATS in their last 15 visits to San Fran.

Seattle Seahawks

A poor start ultimately doomed Seattle at home in last week’s loss to the Falcons. The Seahawks fell behind by a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter and couldn’t finish the comeback despite rallying to within three points down in the final three minutes.

The Seahawks continue to shoot themselves in the foot. They have now surpassed 100 yards in penalties in five straight games. They had a bizarre fake field goal attempt on Monday and then ended up losing by three. And beyond the self-inflicted wounds, they just don’t look as strong.

Seattle’s defense looked nothing like the Legion Of Boom unit that fans have become accustomed to with Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Cliff Avril all injured. The Seahawks gave up 34 points and allowed Atlanta to go 9-of-14 on third down conversions in the loss. This team just doesn’t have the margin of error it once had.

Meanwhile, it will be on Russell Wilson and the offense to step up and carry this team with the injuries taking their toll on the defense. The offensive line is terrible and there is no ground game to speak of, but Wilson makes it work. The 49ers are a weak opponent, so that could work out this week.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco is 1-9 but this team still has a lot left to play for the rest of the season. The 49ers have played some close games all year and now they have a chance to play spoiler against the rival Seahawks.

It will be interesting to see when head coach Kyle Shanahan finally decides to give Jimmy Garoppolo his first start with San Francisco. If it doesn’t happen this week, then it will be rookie C.J. Beathard back under center. Either way, expect running back Carlos Hyde to get another heavy workload as the lead back against Seattle. The 49ers will attempt to establish the run early and take some of the pressure off of their starting quarterback.

Meanwhile, the entire team should be playing with a sense of confidence after taking down the New York Giants in Week 10. San Francisco will have the benefit of the bye week with home advantage this week, so it will be interesting to see if they can carry over some of their momentum and take down their hurting rival.
